    Variety reports that cinema attendance in Europe held steady last year, according to figures released Monday by the European Audiovisual Observatory.

    Admissions rose 0.5% compared to 2007, totaling 924 million across the 27 states of the European Union.

    In second place overall was Quantum of Solace with 27.5 million admissions. Mamma Mia! took the top spot with 33.7 million admissions.

    As earlier reported on CommanderBond.net, Daniel Craig’s second 007 adventure was Germany’s top box office earner in 2008 and also contributed to a record year in the UK.

    Quantum of Solace is the 22nd James Bond 007 film produced by franchise holders Eon Productions. Daniel Craig returns from 2006’s Casino Royale to play James Bond. Quantum of Solace is directed by Marc Forster and scripted by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and Paul Haggis (with an additional polish by Joshua Zetumer). Locations include Panama, Chile, Italy, Austria and the UK. The MGM/Columbia Pictures production began shooting on 2 January and was released on 31 October 2008 in the UK and 14 November in the United States. The world premiere took place on 29 October in London.

    Quantum of Solace co-stars Mathieu Amalric, Olga Kurylenko, Anatole Taubman, Gemma Arterton, Joaquín Cosio, Dame Judi Dench, Jesper Christensen, Giancarlo Giannini, and Jeffrey Wright.
