Die Another Day has broken all opening weekend records set by past James Bond films in Italy and Japan.

The film opened to the Japanese market over the weekend, taking in US$3.4 million across 325 cinemas. That taking was enough for Die Another Day to break the opening weekend record for a Bond film in Japan previously set by GoldenEye.

Die Another Day set another opening weekend record, this time in the Italian market. The film opened after the delayed release pushed the film back from January 31 to February 28. In it’s opening weekend in the region the film took US$2.02 million across 249 cinemas. To date, Die Another Day has taken US$4.1 million in the region.
