  2. 'For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming And James Bond' Now Available

    By Devin Zydel on 2009-04-03

The paperback edition of Ben Macintyre’s book For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond is shipping a few days early from Amazon.co.uk.

Originally published in hardback in April 2008, For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond acts as a companion book to the Fleming centenary exhibit of the same name that was originally launched at the Imperial War Museum in London.

This new edition of For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond is published by Bloomsbury Publishing on 6 April and retails for £7.99. A US release has not been announced.

'For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond'

For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond Paperback

A riveting look into the world of James Bond and his creator, published on the centenary of Ian Fleming’s birth.

In For Your Eyes Only, Ben Macintyre reveals where the world of Ian Fleming ends and the world of James Bond begins. Macintyre looks at the actual people on whom the writer based his fictional creations–friends, colleagues, lovers, and, of course, the notorious villains. Exploring the tradition of spy fiction past and present, with specific attention to the Cold War, Macintyre explains how Bond was based on the realities–and fantasies–of Fleming’s life as a wartime spymaster and peacetime bon vivant.

Stylishly illustrated, For Your Eyes Only features a collector’s dream of gadgets, costumes, props, and storyboards from the films–Daniel Craig’s bloodstained shirt from Casino Royale, the Aston Martin DB5, complete with weaponry–as well as memorabilia from Fleming’s personal archive: his smoking jacket, the manuscript for Casino Royale, his golden typewriter, his guns, and much more.

The Telegraph reports that the James Bond star came in fourth place overall this year after claiming the top spot for the previous two years.

Musician Mark Ronson, who was pegged to be working on the Quantum of Solace theme song with Amy Winehouse, soared to first place from #30 on last year’s listing. He is followed by director Guy Ritchie and fashion designer Tom Ford.

US President Barack Obama came first in GQ’s top international best dressed list while Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand ended up topping the magazine’s worst dressed list.

  5. Collecting 007: John Gardner's James Bond In Large Print (1)

    By Devin Zydel on 2009-04-02

For collectors who specialize in the literary James Bond, there is a seemingly endless supply of different editions and printings available to search for. One such format is the Large Print editions. Meant to accommodate those who have poor vision, the typical large print edition of a book will have size 16 font or higher.

Numerous James Bond novels have been published in the Large Print format, including the Ian Fleming, John Gardner, Raymond Benson and Charlie Higson adventures. These editions of the novels are almost always printed in relatively limited quantities with the majority of them being stocked exclusively in libraries. Additionally, they often feature brand new jacket cover artwork that is not featured on any other printing of the book.

As a result of this, the Large Print editions of the Bond novels can be a bit more tricky to obtain for dedicated collectors.

Following up our Raymond Benson collecting guide, CommanderBond.net now continues with the James Bond novels written by author John Gardner from 1981 to 1996. Included are publication details, the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) identifiers, cover artwork and other related notes.

NOTE: Ordering links are provided for Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com, but do note that the overwhelming majority of these Large Print editions are out of print. However, one can often obtain a used copy via the Amazon Marketplace or at alternate used sites, such as eBay or AbeBooks.

All of the James Bond novels and novelizations written by John Gardner have been released in the Large Print format with the exception of 1989’s Licence To Kill.

    Quantum of Solace

Following up reports from both the UK and Australia, home video sales for Quantum of Solace in the US have now come in.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Daniel Craig’s second James Bond film debuted in the #2 spot overall for the week ending 29 March. Summit Entertainment’s megahit Twilight, entering its second week of sales, prevented 007 from taking the top spot.

However, Quantum of Solace did top both the Nielsen VideoScan Blu-ray Disc chart and Home Media Magazine’s video rental chart for the week. The Blu-ray disc edition of the Bond film accounted for 28% of the title’s total sales.

Twilight emerged as the winner on the digital download chart. The film came in #1 on on Apple’s iTunes chart, while Bond debuted in second place. MGM reports half the purchases were in HD.

  8. Marc Forster Working On New 'Quantum of Solace' Blu-ray/DVD

    By Devin Zydel on 2009-04-01

Surprise, surprise: a new Quantum of Solace Blu-ray/DVD is in the works.

    Marc Forster

Just days after the 22nd James Bond film has hit home video, director Marc Forster has revealed to the Toronto Sun that he will be working on a bigger and better edition.

‘With this first DVD, it all happened pretty fast and I didn’t really have the time. I was only a little bit involved. But I will be working on the second DVD. I will be much more involved in that, putting pieces on,’ said Forster.

New special features will include audio commentaries and behind-the-scenes featurettes, among others. ‘It is much more in-depth,’ he stated.

However, the Quantum director isn’t quite sure exactly how much he wants to reveal about the making of this Bond film.

He said: ‘It used to be that cinema was magic for us and we really didn’t know how certain things were done. It was the sense of this mystery box. Today, because of DVD, people are so aware of how everything is being realized. And I think there are still certain things that should remain a mystery because that makes it interesting.’

    'Quantum of Solace'

    Quantum of Solace

One particular item he is debating about is the original cliffhanger ending to the film in which Daniel Craig’s 007 confronts Mr. White. Originally tipped to be included on this first DVD/Blu-ray release of the film, the one-minute long scene also includes the cut ‘Bond, James Bond’ line.

‘It wasn’t cut because of that sentence,’ Forster explains. ‘It was cut for other reasons. I think it worked but it is still better how it is. It’s not on this DVD and we are still discussing whether we should put it in the next one. On one hand, I think it would be cool for the audience to see it. On the other hand, I think it would be more interesting to keep it a mystery.’

No release date information has been announced regarding this new edition of Quantum of Solace. CommanderBond.net will keep you updated with all of the latest information as it becomes available.

    Everything Or Nothing (Video Game)

    Performed by Mya

    Yeah, yeah…

    Time don’t wait for no-one
So my heart and my time I refuse to waste
You thought you knew the score but
There’s just so much more when you’re caught in the race

    What is love
    Without a flame
    What’s a rose
    Without a name
    What is passion without pain
It ain’t nothing more than an empty space

    Give me Everything or Nothing
Give me Everything or Nothing at all
    Everything or Nothing
Give me Everything or Nothing at all

    (ooh)

He thought he knew who love was
’till he fell in the arms of another extreme
But who’s to say things can’t be changed
It’s your world and tomorrow’s not guaranteed

Can’t drive a car without the keys
Give me the bowl cause a bite’s just the tease
What good’s the bottom without the top
And until I get it all, no, I’m not gonna stop, so

Give me Everything or Nothing (I want it all, I want it all!)
Give me Everything or Nothing at all
    Everything or Nothing
Give me Everything or Nothing at all

Everything is all that I want
Everything is all that I want
Everything is all that I want, I take what I want
Everything is all that I want
Everything, I get what I want

Everything or Nothing (I take what I want)
Everything or Nothing (I get what I want)
