As is typically the case with the James Bond series, before the latest film is released in theatres, fans are already talking about the one that will follow it.

In the case of Quantum of Solace, now due for theatrical release in just days, it’s Bond 23 that is sparking discussion in the Bond community.

In an interview with the Telegraph, Daniel Craig that the film, which will mark his third 007 entry, had not yet been scheduled.

‘As far as the next film’s concerned, there is nothing scheduled,’ he said. ‘Economically the world is in quite a lot of trouble so who knows if we can afford to do another Bond movie anytime soon?’

While details on Bond 23 are very limited at the moment, it’s been reported that Sony Pictures was eyeing a 2010 release date, which would continue the typical two-year break between Bond films. New York has also been mentioned as a possible location.

  2. 007 In New York?

    By Matt Weston on 2008-09-11

Variety columnist Liz Smith may have unearthed the very first piece of news regarding Bond 23.

In her latest column, she claims James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli and 007 himself, Daniel Craig, were spotted dining at Primola restaurant in New York, where they revealed the location will feature in the follow-up to Quantum of Solace.

    Smith writes…

WHO WAS that blond stunner who froze forks mid-air at the posh Primola eatery in N.Y.? Oh yes indeed, it was Daniel Craig, 007 himself. The studly Daniel was accompanied by his producer Babara Broccoli. (She is the daughter of Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, who co-produced all the James Bond films until his death in 1996. Barbara took over and now has a “license to film.”) Daniel and Barbara talked about the next Bond epic, part of which will be filmed — for the very first time! — in New York. Primola itself will have a little cameo. Maybe Daniel just wanted to see if the restaurant could handle those shoulders of his. The Bond film ready for release this year is the oddly titled Quantum of Solace.

While wrong on the New York debut claim (the city featured in 1973’s Live and Let Die), Smith’s snippet may prove interesting down the line.

Bond 23 is pencilled in for a 2010 release date.

  3. Sony Eyes 2010 Release Date For 'Bond 23'

    By Matt Weston on 2007-07-15

Trade paper Variety today carries a story on studios’ increasing desire to plan ahead for upcoming releases, briefly mentioning Sony’s plans for the James Bond franchise.

Whilst November 2008 sees Daniel Craig return to the role of Agent 007, the studio is reportedly eying a 2010 release date for the following Bond pic, the 23rd in the enduring spy series.

Newly-announced Bond 22 director Marc Forster and writer Paul Haggis are currently hard at work on bringing 007’s next outing to the screen. However, increasing pressures on studios – particularly in the area of marketing and merchandising – mean they have to plan further ahead in their schedules.
