  1. Daniel Craig Figure From Sideshow On The Way

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-07-30

Great news for James Bond collectors: a Daniel Craig figure from Sideshow Collectibles seems to finally be on the way.

According to a report from the Double O Section, Sideshow representatives strongly hinted at this past weekend’s Comic-Con in San Diego that a Daniel Craig figure was on the way (although they would not confirm this).

‘Check the website,” said one of the representatives. ‘Craig fans will be happy.’

Most recently, Sideshow has been concentrating on their Legacy Collection of 007 figures which includes: Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan (click on these links for specific information on each figure). The Connery and Brosnan figures were sculpted by Mat Falls, while Oluf W. Hartvigson did the Lazenby, Moore, and Dalton figures. 5. Casino Royale's Omega Watches Fetch High Prices At Auction

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-04-16

CBn previously reported that the Omega watches featured in Casino Royale, including the Planet Ocean worn by Daniel Craig’s James Bond, were to be auctioned off at Antiquorum’s “Omegamania” event, which took place on 14-15 April 2007 in at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel du Rhone in Geneva, Switzerland.

The sale was a phenomenal success with a grand total of CHF 6.5m (roughly $5.4 million or £2.7 million), more than three times the pre-sale estimate…

    Omegamania Sweeps the World

An auction of vintage Omega watches as well as one worn by Daniel Craig in the most recent James Bond movie Casino Royale fetched a staggering CHF 6.5m, more than three times the pre-sale estimate.

‘Omegamania’, hosted by the world’s leading horological auctioneers, Antiquorum, generated a total of CHF 6,536,911 including the highest price ever paid for an Omega watch at auction. A Platinum Constellation Grand Luxe dating from 1953 went to a Swiss bidder for CHF 413,700 after fierce competition from Italy and Japan.

The auction was staged in Geneva on Saturday and Sunday and broadcast simultaneously to the Basel watch and jewellery fair, with bids via a satellite link for the first time ever at a public auction. In addition, 48,500 people all over the world followed the auction via internet link, with one third of the lots sold online.

The last of the 300 lots, all of which were sold, was the Seamaster Planet Ocean worn by the new James Bond. The watch was acquired by a UK buyer who would not disclose his name, but the tension would have pleased Bond author Ian Fleming as the bidding became ever more intense between room, phone and online. The watch finally went for the astounding price of CHF 250,250.

More glamour was added by the ring watch once owned by the original ‘Bond girl’, actress Ursula Andress. The watch, designed by Andrew Grima in 1972, was bought by a bidder at the Baselworld fair for CHF 261,750. Two original Speedmasters, the watch that became the first and only model ever to be worn on the moon, were sold for 30 times more than the current retail price.

Osvaldo Patrizzi, founder and chairman of Antiquorum, said: “Omegamania has confirmed the arrival of Omega in the top echelon of collectors’ brands.” Vincent Ferniot, a renowned French journalist, said: “Omega collectors like me always felt a little discredited by other watch brand collectors and we always knew that the prices of our vintage Omega watches were underestimated. From now on we might even be envied.”

Stephen Urquhart, president of Omega, said: “Omegamania has shown all Omega fans and watch collectors the fantastic richness and scope of the brand and its heritage. Today’s auction will remain as a milestone in Omega’s history.”

OMEGA is a company of the Swatch Group.

  10. Daniel Craig 'Golden Compass' Figure Coming From Corgi

    By Devin Zydel on 2007-03-04

While product tie-ins for Daniel Craig’s first James Bond film, Casino Royale, were nothing new to fans, it appears that his upcoming non-007 film, The Golden Compass, is also being prepped for a somewhat similar treatment.

Variety reports that Corgi Toys, long associated with the Bond series, has big plans for the film.

Darren Epstein, exec VP, global business development said, ‘Nothing else is coming near The Golden Compass in the last three months of this year. Prince Caspian was supposed to be there, but it moved because it didn’t want to be near Golden Compass. They might tell you otherwise, that it’s filmmaking reasons, but whatever they say, Golden Compass has got a clear run.’

‘We’re bringing some ideas that do well in the adult collectible market into the toy area,’ Epstein says. ‘We want the boy or girl to immerse themselves in the world of the film, so we’re developing and sculpting the best likeness of any toy product there has been.’

‘Commenting on the planned Daniel Craig figure of Lord Asriel, he called it ‘the best action figure I’ve ever seen. You put it next to a photo of Daniel Craig, it looks exactly like him. This is also going to be Nicole Kidman’s first foray into the world of fandom, and that’s going to be very interesting.’

‘I was on the Golden Compass set a few weeks ago, talking to the costume designer, the props master. Some of these people are Oscar winners, and yet they are concerning themselves about how a prop looks on set and how that can be transformed into something you can play with.’ Click here to read the entire article.
