  5. "I'd love to reinvent Q and Moneypenny."

    By Tim Roth on 2008-11-08

In an interview with German newspaper Die Welt, Daniel Craig commented on possible story ideas and details for Bond 23.

Asked whether the Bond he portrays would stay monogamic in the next films, Craig said: "We have plenty of time in the next installment to tell that story [of Bond sleeping with women]. We introduced the "new Bond" properly with these two films, so now everything is possible: hollowed-out volcanoes, undersea lairs, characters such as Q and Moneypenny. All this could return to the franchise. I would love if we reinvented these two charachters. But we would need to get the best actors around for these roles."

In the next question, Craig was asked about the rumours that he asked for a gay sex scene in a future James Bond film. Laughing, the British actor said: "I know that this is an internet rumour and everybody asks me about it. I have nothing against homosexuals and as you may know, I already played a gay man in another film. But I will never ever play a gay James Bond. If that is ever going to happen, I will quit the job."

    Quantum of Solace

As earlier reported on CommanderBond.net, this weekend sees the main thrust of Quantum of Solace in theatres all around the world.

The 22nd James Bond film has expanded into 58 new territories, including almost all of Europe and much of Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.

Variety reports that the 007 film launches in Italy at 489 sites with mixed reviews and solid, but not spectacular expectations.

Sony with La Repubblica gave the film the thumbs up, but Corriere della Sera warned that ‘007 fans will be disconcerted’ by its lack of irony and playfulness, stating that ‘the pleasure of the Bond universe crumbles.’

Germany is expected to be a much stronger market for Quantum of Solace, thanks to critical praise and a massive promotional push, including a recent premiere attended by Daniel Craig, Olga Kurylenko and other cast and crew members.

With generally no major competitors at the German theatres, Bond is expected to score big at the box office.

The film is also doing solid business in India, where it opened to about 75% occupancy with roughly 600 prints. The Economic Times reports this was an improvement on Casino Royale‘s debut.

Additionally, all eyes are on the UK box office, where Bond entering his second weekend of business. Following the film’s record-breaking opening and strong midweek business, bookers are hoping for a drop-off of 50% or less.

  9. Daniel Craig On Continuing Bond's Journey In 'Quantum of Solace'

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-11-07

Daniel Craig recently sat down for an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle in Beverly Hills to discuss continuing James Bond’s emotional journey in Quantum of Solace.

    Daniel Craig is James Bond

    Daniel Craig is James Bond

‘We started something with Casino Royale,’ Craig said. ‘There was a love story that was a big event. To just sort of brush over it, to make it just a little reference in the next movie, “Oh, there was this girl once …”–it just seemed wrong. Let’s do a sequel. Let’s tie up all the loose ends, let’s find out who the bad guys are, let’s solidify the relationship with M and Felix.’

Asked if there was one particular moment where he finally felt completely like James Bond, Craig answered: ‘I don’t know that there’s ever going to come a day when I feel like Bond, because … there’s too much movie history, there’s too much that’s gone on that makes it kind of indefinable. Putting on a tuxedo and driving an Aston Martin is always going to help.’

‘We did the gun barrel (opening sequence) this time, and that was nerve-racking. Let’s face it: That’s the moment in the Bond movie when you go, “Oh, of course, it’s James Bond.”‘

Craig continued: ‘On this I met with special-forces people who’ve been very kind and very patient with me, some of whom have been teaching me how to shoot, some of whom have just been giving me advice. I’ve met a few guys who I know are the real deal. I wanted to see how they walk into a room, how they hold themselves. Because, believe me, it’s not who I am. And the idea in Casino Royale is a guy who’s just come straight out of the army, straight out of special services. He’d been on active duty and given this assignment. So I wanted to get a flavor of that. These guys are … I don’t know … the things they’ve seen.’

The 007 star wouldn’t get into a question about who would win between Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan, however.

He said, laughing: ‘I can’t get involved with this. You know I can’t. Someone asked me before, who would win a fight, Bond or Batman or Bourne? And I said, “Bond would get the other two to punch the s–t out of each other while betting on both of them and having a martini.”‘

  10. Daniel Craig's Omega Watch To Sell For Charity

    By Devin Zydel on 2008-11-07

An Omega wristwatch belonging to Daniel Craig is going up for auction to benefit charity.

    Daniel Craig

The BBC News reports that the James Bond actor donated the watch while promoting his latest 007 film, Quantum of Solace on the Friday Night with Jonathan Ross show in late October.

After eyeing Craig’s watch during the interview, Ross said: ‘Give me that watch.’

‘What do you want me to do?’ Craig said.

‘Give me that watch you got there,’ Ross said.

‘You want this watch, it’s yours,’ the actor replied.

Ross, who then tried to return the favour to Craig by offering him a Ricky Gervais coaster, suggested he’d auction the watch for charity.

Money raised from the sale, which starts this upcoming Monday, 10 November on eBay, will benefit BBC’s annual fundraiser Children In Need.

A watch with the same specifications is worth around £15,000, but the BBC said the actor’s is ‘invaluable as it has been worn by Daniel and came directly off his wrist’.
