Which Bond girls giggled in a bikini?
Mary Goodnight? I dont remember her giggling, Tiffany Case - not really, Jinx Johnson, definitely not that would have required acting from Halle. Sounds like a media cliche.. |

I have never shared the opinion that Bond films are sexist. In fact some of the most powerful (and scary) women I have seen in film have come from Bond movies.
While not all Bond women are the same. Most of them do have an underlying 'don't f*** with me' aura about them. Cross or betray any of these women and the word 'sorry' will take on a whole new conotation. ![]() Queens conquer

I hate to sound like this, but don't they say this with EVERY movie? I'm just saying... You're so right. Every time a new Bond film comes out the newest Bond-girl will describe herself as a "not typical Bond-girl, a very different one." To me, the only one that actually was very different from all the others was Eva Green. Her performance was so natural that I felt like I was watching a real actress. But I have to agree that every single main Bond-girl has been far from the "giggling girl in bikini" Craig is referring to. ![]() MB

It seems like the makers of the films now feel like they have to apologize for Bond girls in the past by emphasizing how the new ones are different. With few exceptions (Goodnight), I don't feel like they have a whole lot to apologize for.

With few exceptions (Goodnight), I don't feel like they have a whole lot to apologize for. Just the opposite for me: Mary Goodnight is one of my favorite Bond girls.Hey! Maybe that's the quote we should be looking for from future Bond flicks: "The girls in this one aren't tough or different or able to stand on their own, like the average cookie-cutter of the past. This time, our Bond girl is going to be clueless eye-candy only!" ![]() |

Oh dear....the new girls "hold their own" do they? Is that the new way of saying "they don't need James Bond" and that they will "provide more than an even match". I fell for that one in 1989 and have never done since.

If I had a nickel for every time I read or heard a news story with this spin every time a new Bond film was released, I'd be richer than Auric Goldfinger.
I think I heard this spin the least on Casino Royale and that was the best Bond film of the last 20 years with the best women of any Bond film made in the last 20 years as well. It seems like the makers of the films now feel like they have to apologize for Bond girls in the past by emphasizing how the new ones are different. Well, it's not quite as bad as the usual, "I'm not a Bond Girl; my character takes on Bond at his own game and comes out on top...." yawn....zzzzzzzz....... Sorry, but if I want an action film with a kick- |
