A good interview in The Times here SPOILERS FOLLOW It seems that educated guesses about the book being about the drugs trade and being set in the Middle East were correct. Plus we find out that the book opens in France and contains 'Indo Chinese torture', a duplicitous girl and a disfigured villain. All present and correct there! Love the bit where we hear of difficulties he had getting into Bond's mind: QUOTE In an attempt to get inside the mind of Bond, and temporarily stalled by the demands of the plot, Faulks kept rewriting one page: Bond looked back . . . reflected . . . weighed things up. And he laughs at the impossibility of it I didnt know what he thought. I just couldnt think what he might think. The way out of the impasse was to follow Flemings directions. In the end, I just kept going The door opened . . . I looked back at How to Write a Thriller and it said, dont slow it down. So, just dont. Plus, he says that he's unlikely to do another. I like his suggestion for more, though. |

It even, Bond aficionados will be glad to find, affords scope for Fleming-like relishings of exotic milieus and cuisine. Awesome! By the way, I too like his suggestion for the next books... ![]() The Mercurius Affair: A James Bond novella - A tribute to Ian Fleming's creation

Couldn't see anything re: further books, in that interview? We were refering to this passage, at the end of the interview: Will Faulks write another 007 sequel? It seems unlikely. [...] Maybe, he suggests, the Fleming estate should invite a series of other novelists to do one-off Bond continuations. ![]() The Mercurius Affair: A James Bond novella - A tribute to Ian Fleming's creation
