Almost 22 Bond films in, do you think that we've already had the definitive 007 movie.. or is it possible that we're still waiting on it? My personal favourite is GoldenEye.. although I did love Casino Royale, so I'm open to the idea but I'd love to hear what you guys think

Best yet to come? So what you are saying is that stories that have nothing to do with Fleming, music that does not come from John Barry, set designers that can not match the artistry and creativity of Ken Adam, and an actor playing Bond who will always be second to Connery, are going to produce the best Bond film?

It is very possible. I ALWAYS like to think the best is yet to come. |

It's always possible, I suppose, but I think it's all relative to the type of Bond fan you are, and which era you prefer. Those who love Connery will never look ahead to anything else, and that's just fine. What I wonder is, are we closer to the end of the series, somewhere in the middle, or are there still decades of Bond ahead?

I think that, in terms of just overall quality of the film (and not just the performance of the Bond actor) that we've already seen the best of what we're going to see from the Bond films. I can't imagine that any future Bond film could recapture the qualities that make the early Bond films great (and I would have to add that the 1960s were really the only time in the franchise's history when the films were consistently good), and I would argue that as Hollywood tends to rely on more and more computer animation and over-the-top action spectacles rather than storytelling, that the Bond franchise will always have those elements in them in order to make them mainstream, and that will ultimately keep any new film from reaching the peak in quality that early films such as DR. NO, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, THUNDERBALL, and ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE reached and that films such as THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS and LICENCE TO KILL tried to duplicate.

The best already passed in the 60's. I don't think we'll come back to that, the law of the cosmos forbids it once a franchise peaked to that height, it wont go there again it's time to ride off into thes sunset and let other producers and other stories to reach those peaks someday, but the greenbacks mean the series will always continue no matter what.

Who knows! Maybe in the future years we may have a better Bond actor than Connery, a better set designer, a better music writer and a story that will be good and it will not come from Fleming. Bond movies don't end when good moments end! ![]() ![]() |

Indeed. That was the topper of the whole mystique. People always compare the rest of series to them. Not to mention the producers trying to replicate aspects of them, ala QoS trying to evoke an early Connery vibe. When a new Bond is cast, it is always 'will he be better than Connery?' Bond will hopefully continue and always be big, though. ![]() |

Erm, they already did, with 2006's CASINO ROYALE. |
