Exactly. Sounds like the best issue yet. The mag was always damn good, but it looks as though things have kicked it up to a---- to an, erm, all time high.

Is anyone apart of the Bond International Fan Club? and gets the magazine?

Issue #5 of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the James Bond International Fan Clubs official magazine, is out now - and its chockablock with exciting content.

Headlining the issue is an exclusive interview with James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, as the actor reflects on 2006s Casino Royale while gearing up for Quantum of Solace.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang also chats with You Know My Name singer Chris Cornell and reflects on the life of the late Lois Maxwell, aka Miss Moneypenny.

does anyone have this?

Perhaps they will get issue 6 out for the bicentenary.

Full disclosure: I have contributed to earlier issues of this magazine.

Fantastic stuff. Packed with goodies of every possible Bond variety: Faulks stuff, Higson stuff, centenary stuff, and so on. Highlights for me are the interviews with Chris Cornell and Craig himself. Although both contain a lot of information I already knew, the overall picture is quite different. You get a real feeling for the people as they must really be, and that's rare in any sort of journalism, let alone fan journalism. From Craig getting drunk in a hotel room fiddling with a rudely titled iTunes playlist to Cornell talking about Fleming's first novel and how it resonates with him, the process and life behind making these films is shown in a completely new light, I think. It feels to me (and this is an odd thought, I'll admit) like the equivalent of John Pearson's work on Bond: classy, thoughtful, deepening what you thought was just a silly game of buggers. It's just that good. It is clearly a labour of love, and the design flaws of the earlier issues have, I think, been completely ironed out, so that it now feels like a coherent creature of its own, rather than a mock-up of what a glossy fan magazine might look like in the future. It is KKBB now, if that makes any sense - this feels like it is here to stay. The writing in it is of a very high level: nuanced, considered, and always sourced. It will be settling many arguments in years to come. There's more space for photos in this one, and less of the fan events - both pluses in my book. I'll be reading it again and again, but for now just: Bravo. A tremendous thing to be in existence - long may it continue.

Get it now.

Glad to hear you give it a big thumbs up.

But what's up with dissing fan events? I got plenty of compliments for the review of the Lazenby Pinewood event from issue 1...

smile.gif I thought I might take some stick for that! It's just a personal preference, doublenoughtspy. It's not that I don't like fan stuff - but there's other stuff I get more into. I don't drive, so articles about Bond and his cars - however well done - never get my juice flowing as much as some other things. A bit the same with this: I've never been to a fan event, and somehow it's just never been an interest of mine. I don't collect anything, either. I'm arguably not a Bond fan. smile.gif

But I did enjoy your article in Issue 1, and always do enjoy your articles, if that helps me out of the hole I'm digging!

No problem SNF. We all have things that rev our engines (ha ha) about Bond.

I do understand that fan events don't float everybody's boat. When I report about them I try not to make it sound like "I was there, you weren't, nah nah." Because spots are so limited for these sorts of things (the next Bondstars event will use a lottery system) good reporting is a nice proxy for being there.
