In-depth report with all new plot details (Greene's organization, the natural resource...), photos, and interviews

Daniel Craig showing no signs of stopping

Mickey G let the cat is out of the bag to USA Today. Here we go:

Wilson explains: "The title we thought was appropriate for a couple of reasons. The villainous organization is called Quantum, and what Bond is looking for in his life is a measure of comfort, and that's what a 'quantum of solace' is. He's just trying to find a little bit of comfort because his life is in turmoil."

I actually knew this and wondered why they didn't say this earlier to shut up the press about the title.

I like. smile.gif

I suppose it was pretty obvious it would be called that, really. What with Greene's 'Q' lapel pin.

Interesting name. I like, and I have no idea why they kept that detail under wraps until now. We also know many more things thanks to that new USA today article:

We know Greene's out to control the world's water supply, we know that Bond's character arc is about whether or not he'll let his desire for vengeance turn him into a monster, we know the details of the film's final confrontation, we know that Bond and Camille don't actually have a romantic relationship (and that his one fling in the movie is just a brief one-off with Fields).

Suddenly I'm a lot more excited by this film. A central Bond girl/Bond relationship without heavy romance? That's in keeping with the bold spirit of CASINO ROYALE.

It was also quite nice to read about Forster's comments about the final action sequence. It's nice to see that some genuine thought went into the action as to how it relates to Bond's character, not just putting together snazzy choreography.

Sorry, but I'm not buying into it, and I cite the PAUL HAGGIS ARGUMENT as my case: a few weeks after the initial press conference Haggis stated that he didn't have anything to do with the title being selected, which contradicts the notion that the Organisation is called "Quantum". If it was to be called Quantum, it's likely he would have had some idea of what the title was before it was announced, which he stated was not the case. For the Organisation to be called "Quantum" in a film called Qunatum of Solace without the screenwriter having any idea as to what the title was is too big a coincidence for me to accept. No, I think the writer of this article has come to his own conclusion based on Dominic Greene's lapel pin.

Then explain to me this: how the hell does taking control of the driest place on Earth give you control of the world's water supply? If you read the article in full, Michael G. Wilson stated that Bolivia has seen problems with the control of its water supply in the past, which is where I think this author has gotten the idea from. If you listen to the audio commentary in the gallery, th author also states that the plot involves executing a coup d'etat in several South American countries, when we know it's just Bolivia that is involved.

There's a direct quote from MGW. No way around that.

Secret water supply or what have you. They've clearly come up with a gimmick.

We actually don't know that. Haiti's also involved, and other countries may get mentioned without being visited.

I think you can believe it, Captain Tightpants (good name, btw). It's a direct quote from Michael G. Wilson. That's as good as it gets. And in regards to your argument that Haggis would have known the title... I actually heard the organization was called Quantum long ago. Before the title, before Haggis. I think it might have even been in 2006 (I was also told some info about what titles they would use which didn't exactly play out). So it was always Quantum. Or maybe it changed and then changed back. But believe it. And love it.

Well, why should Haggis have any idea, anyway? It's only a name. Mickey G. probably took his Biro out and changed the name sometime after Haggis had finished his draft of the screenplay.

Nope. I feel it's safe to talk about Quantum because the cat is out of the bag. But what I've heard about titles is still in the bag. When we get the title for Bond 23, I'll spill.
