http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/...Id=125328?imw=Y YouTube Surfing: Ford Ka Appears To Make Cameo Appearance in Upcoming James Bond Film PANAMA CITY, Panama — Online video has surfaced showing the various locales where Quantum of Solace, the latest James Bond film, is being shot. In the montage, we can catch a glimpse of what appears to be the very un-Bond-like Ford Ka doing duty as a chase car. The Ford brand has had a healthy relationship with James Bond these past few years. He has been supplied with Aston Martins for three consecutive movies (a Vanquish in Die Another Day, a DBS in Casino Royale and a DB5 in bothCasino Royale and the film now in production). That's in addition to a few lower-profile supporting vehicles, such as Halle Berry's Thunderbird and Bond's Mondeo airport rental. The Ka is most assuredly not going to be as featured as much as the DBS, although you can see at 2m 24s in the video that it does appear to have some significant screen time. (Why else would they have made it up with those cool decals on the side?) And it doesn't appear to be a simple transport shot like the Thunderbird or Mondeo had in previous films, since someone (Bond?) is shown bailing out the side right before the car takes off. Excitement! See for yourself. (Click on link at start of article for link). Quantum of Solace is set to be released November 7, starring Daniel Craig and Gemma Arterton. What this means to you: That's right, you don't need to own an Aston to have a Bond car in your garage. — Paul Tassi, Correspondent |

I'm guessing that, because of the livery, it's a Green Planet company car. I can't think of any other vehicle in Bolivia that might have livery on it beside a taxi, and since Bolivia is the poorest country in South America, I can't picture a taxi company running a fleet of brand new Ford Kas. Nor can I picture any taxi company running that kind of livery (then again, the ones in my home town have the town name spelt wrongly ...).

The car product placement is something that really does bug me. I don't mind the Aston Martin's - they fit. But the rest of the Ford portfolio is just irritating - Bond driving a Mondeo, the Ford car park in the Bahamas (I dare you to find a non-Ford car in that car park). It's all to obvious and too much.

There are non-Ford vehicles there -- after the fact. Ford announced this past week it's selling Jaguar and Land Rover to India's Tata Motors Ltd. EDIT: The company sold Aston Martin off last year. I'm not that concerned about what brand cars appear so long as they work for what they are used for in the film.
I hated the advert-style shot of the Ford Mondeo in Casino Royale. It got groans from everyone I knew who saw the film of the same quality as the "Omega" comment. ![]() ![]() "Impatiently Bond lit a cigarette, pulled his shoulders out of their slouch and slammed the mawkish memories back into their long-closed file. Today he was a grown up, a man with years of dirty, dangerous memories - a spy." |

The Omega comment is beyond product placement - it's pure advertising. ![]() ![]() |

Did they really have to have that comment in the dialogue in order for Omega to allow them to use their watches? Seriously. Do they really have to do some zoom-in on the Ford badge on a car for Ford to allow them to use one of their crummy average cars in the film? Let's hope they stop that nonsense, it's unnecessary. Everyone I know could spot the Vaio laptops every time they were on screen and sometimes the shot wasn't even obvious at all. ![]() ![]() "Impatiently Bond lit a cigarette, pulled his shoulders out of their slouch and slammed the mawkish memories back into their long-closed file. It's ironic that one of the best (probably the best) Bond film of the past couple of decades should also have at least two of the most blatant product placements.

It's ironic that one of the best (probably the best) Bond film of the past couple of decades should also have at least two of the most blatant product placements. A bloody awful shame. Casino Royale was littered with often obvious product placement. It's worse when the products aren't even that classy like a Ford Mondeo too. ![]() ![]() "Impatiently Bond lit a cigarette, pulled his shoulders out of their slouch and slammed the mawkish memories back into their long-closed file. Why don't they sell it here?" Ford's CEO, Alan Mulally, has actually commented in public about this. (My job involves reporting about the company; I've heard him comment about this, specifically referencing Casino Royale.) He's trying to integrate Ford-North America, Ford of Europe, etc., so they share more parts. Also, the Mondeo in Casino Royale was a prototype. The company wasn't making that version yet (for sale). It is not "street legal." The production version didn't come out until later. |

Some people even chuckled in the cinema I was asking myself: Rolex was mentioned in this dialogue / ad, so does it mean the Rolex firm had to pay something for that? ![]() |
