McCartney backs Winehouse for 'Bond'

Paul McCartney has said that Amy Winehouse would be a "really good" choice for the new James Bond theme tune.

The former Beatle, who performed the 1973 Bond hit 'Live and Let Die', claimed his only advice for the singer would be to avoid trying to think up words that rhyme with the film's title Quantum of Solace.

He is quoted as saying: "I think Amy Winehouse would be really good, and I think she would do a really good job.

"My advice to her would be not to try and rhyme 'Solace' with anything - that's too hard."

Artists including Duran Duran, A-Ha, Sir Tom Jones and Dame Shirley Bassey have performed 007 tracks in the past.

When asked whether he would ever pen another Bond tune, he replied: "I definitely wouldn't do it again.

"I have been trying to think of something to rhyme with 'Solace' and all I can come up with is 'Wallace'! I don't envy whoever is going to do the song!"

Well... I guess the good news is that McCartney does at least know one of the words in the title.

I actually agree that Winehouse could be a very good choice for Quantum of Solace.

I meant to listen to that; he was on Radio 1 last week on Edith Bowman's show and they said he'd be talking Bond theme tunes. I think it was late last week; you can still listen to it on iPlayer if you fancy.

The interesting this is that he said he wouldn't do another song if asked. But it does seem as if he wouldn't do it for QUANTUM OF SOLACE just because he wouldn't want to try and create a rhyme.

I bet Edith Bowman enjoyed interviewing him. It's interesting that they got him to talk about Bond themes.

Considering McCartney's recent record when it comes to backing women perhaps he should keep out of it. Come to think of it maybe his ex wife could sing the theme tune. She could call it Quantum Of Sole Leg.

What the hell is this massive bloody fettish the media seem to have for her singing the Bond song? I wish they'd shut up about her it's getting on my nerves so badly.

Incidentally Live and Let Die is one of the most annoyingly bad Bond songs IMO.

"Impatiently Bond lit a cigarette, pulled his shoulders out of their slouch and slammed the mawkish memories back into their long-closed file. Today he was a grown up, a man with years of dirty, dangerous memories - a spy."

Who knows? Maybe it will be her. There are always endless artists touted by the media as the new Bond singer, but with the constant spotlight on Winehouse all along, plus comments from Michael G. Wilson and now Paul McCartney, perhaps she will end up getting the job.

I had heard that EON was trying to get The Oompa Loompas to do the theme song.

You don't hear that very often.

I disagree strongly. It is among the finest Bond songs, in my opinion.

Winehouse for Bond... she looks so classy with a needle in her tattoed arm, tarted up so much like an old whore, with the smell of alcohol coming ouf ot her ugly mouth, it's totally in the spirit of the franchise.

Seconded. I wish not to be a jerk, I'm merely curious: what is it about the song you dislike? Despite varying opinions on the movie, the one thing my friends and I agree on is that LALD has a righteous theme song.

And on the subject of Bond themes, I used to think Winehouse was alright until I found out more about her as a person. I'm still pulling for The Killers for QoS, but it's a long shot.

This is the part I wouldn't show you. The part where you say "I don't even know you". This is your cue. Be glad that it's through...
