A Bond with Chino
David Allen, Columnist
Article Created: 02/28/2008 07:46:26 PM PST

JAMES BOND'S producers knew just where to find a worthy adversary: Chino.
Following a tip from the Bond news site MI6 (www.mi6.co.uk) passed along to me by reader Joe Lyons, I ventured to the Chino Airport on Tuesday.
Mission: Find Hinton. Steve Hinton.
Hinton, located on the tarmac outside the Planes of Fame Museum, told me he did indeed fly a jet for "Quantum of Solace," the next Bond adventure.
He spent three weeks in Mexico, returning Feb. 15, for the film shoot in which he flew a Marchetti, an Italian military trainer jet, outfitted with machine guns.
"I'm the typical bad guy, trying to shoot down James Bond, who's flying in another airplane," Hinton said with a smile.
The small jet was nearby, its coating of black wax being washed off as we spoke before its return to its owner.
Hinton, president of the museum, has flown aircraft in movie productions for three decades, with credits including "Pearl Harbor," "We Were Soldiers" and "Always." For the upcoming "Iron Man," he flew jets that will be replaced via computer with F-22s.
Hinton was sworn to secrecy about the "Quantum" production other than details already known: Locations include Panama, Italy and Chile, and the plot picks up right after "Casino Royale."
"Which I thought was the best one," Hinton added

Bond to fly a jet as well? I hope it beats the TND scene.

Who knows? He could be a passenger, in a helicopter, anything really.

Sounds very interesting indeed. Maybe Bond being chased in the plane will lead into the scene where he parachutes/free-falls down to the ground.

I was thinking the same thing.

There are some pics of the jet over on MI6.

I think this is probably a sequence lifted from Michael France's GoldenEye screenplay, with the jet replacing some attack helicopters. In that script Bond and Marina (Natalya) are in a plane being fired on by the helicopters, and they bail out of the plane just before it's blown up. Bond shoots one of the helicopters down in mid-air, and they free fall into a cavern.

It’s interesting that it is described as a jet, when the photos show that it has a propeller.

Also MI6 call it a “little Turbojet”, when it’s clearly a turboprop

Now, this other article says the plain is a jet and a Marchetti, but a Marchetti is not a jet, its a propeller plain.( a turboprop in fact)

Umm… it’s as confusing as who is making the suits.

It sounds a bit daft to me, like something from the Brosnan films. But then it's all in the execution I guess...

I know I'll sound like a spoilsport to make this observation, but fans of the novels will know that Fleming's Bond wasn't a pilot. Still, having Bond able to fly an aircraft expands the types of action they can do in the films, so I'm in favor!
