Production has officially started in Panama now. The first link is from last weekend and talks of the main body of production arriving in Panama during the week.

Daniel Craig to arrive in Panama for James Bond movie

The British actor Daniel Craig will arrive in Panama tomorrow [Monday 4 February] to shoot his second James Bond movie.

Craig is expected tomorrow at the Intercontinental Playa Bonita Resort, a former American military base, 15 kilometers from the capital.

Employees of the hotel have indicated that they are already hosting some of the production staff and only the major cast members are expected. The filming of the movie, which will be released in November, also includes shooting in London, Italy and Australia [sic].

Additionally, according to "Mi Diario - The Voice of Panama", there was a launch party for the start of the Panama shooting at the National Theatre a few nights ago. My translation isn't literal, but it gives the general impression. There are also a few grainy photos at the above link.

Here's a quick translation I've knocked together of the above article:

Daniel has been preparing for shooting scenes at the old Howard Air Force Base, and officially began these yesterday.

Another part of filming will be centrally focussed upon the Casco Viejo [Old Town] and the district of Santa Ana. One of the buildings that will be used is the headquarters of the National Institute of Culture (INAC), which is being fully refurbished to serve as a hotel (Andean Grand Hotel) as evidenced by the signs placed. It’s important to note that the INAC will not be working on Monday, as filming will be taking place that day.

Due to the filming, that will last until 21 February, some roads will also be closed to traffic. For example, Calle 16 Oeste (the street alongside the National Bank), in Santa Ana, will remain closed today. On Saturday, the street 18 Sta. Ana. On 14 and 15 February, Calle Estudiante (National Institute) and Calle Rochet (National Bingo) will be blocked. Access will only be allowed to residents and people who work in the area.

It has not all been work and before they got back into the world of “action and cuts”, there was a formal dinner at the National Theatre, which was attended by main cast, including the one not to miss - Daniel Craig. Similarly, Judi Dench (M), Giancarlo Giannini and director Marc Porter [sic] were in attendance. The Bond girl, Gemma Arterton, was also present at the dinner.
