Mr. Slate, hmmmm? wink.gif

Either the colour/codename theory is true, or he's representing Christopher Hitchens. biggrin.gif

Their source is IMDb, but after a search I see that he announced this on his MySpace way back on December 19th.

QUOTE
I finalized contracts a few days ago to play the role of Mr. Slate in the new, as yet untitled, Bond film. Details are a little sketchy at this point, but I do have a big fight with 007...

In a November 9th post, he said the character he was up for was named "Mr. Black"

"One day, and he accepted the fact, he would be brought to his knees by love or by luck. When that happened he knew he too would be branded with the deadly question-mark he recognized so often in others, the promise to pay before you have lost: the acceptance of fallibility." -Casino Royale, by Ian Fleming

Amazing that he announced it on December 19th, and the news didnd't hit the forum (and Bond sites in general) before!

Mr. Slate? This must mean "the organization" is the Slate Rock and Gravel Company featured in The Flintstones.

Mr. Slate was a popular name on '60s TV shows. Mark Slate was April Dancer's partner on The Girl From UNCLE.

Either that, or the colour/codename designation was way too obvious. wink.gif

Slate isn't really a colour though is it, it's a rock. It's sometimes used in silly colour names for paint and stuff but frankly going from Mr White to Mr Slate does not immediately make one think "aha colours!". Greene isn't a colour either...green is, not greene.

I think White is just his name...I've known people called White. I also had a teacher way back in my kiddie days called Mr Coffee, and my brother had a teacher called Mr Chicken.

If Mr White had been called Mr Coffee would people immediately think the organisation used hot beverage code-names? Or maybe bean code-names? I dunno.

Mr Bond...it's his name, it's not a code-name based on official certificates of debt or something.

Surnames which are colours are very common. I still maintain it's just a name, otherwise it's just blatantly ripping off Resevoir Dogs.

"Impatiently Bond lit a cigarette, pulled his shoulders out of their slouch and slammed the mawkish memories back into their long-closed file. Today he was a grown up, a man with years of dirty, dangerous memories - a spy."
