Now on the CBn main page...
http://blogs.reuters.com/fanfare/2008/01/2...ond-james-bond/ With hundreds of millions of dollars at stake, you can see why the studios and producers behind the James Bond films want to keep plot and cast details under wraps for as long as possible. Some cast members are finding levels of secrecy befitting a super spy somewhat scary, however. So oil it is, it seems. ![]() |

Oil sort of ties in with the sticky end comment, come to think of it. Well, after all our more or less serious guesses in another thread, maybe oil is not a bad idea. OK, it's the same "natural resource" as in TWINE, but it's so important nowadays that there seems to be few other challenging resources. ![]() The Mercurius Affair: A James Bond novella - A tribute to Ian Fleming's creation

I figured as much. Perhaps "Green Planet's" prospectors discover a massive, new natural well and in gaining control of the land it's on, can establish a position of supreme market authority?

Yeah, I suggested in another thread that perhaps Fields will die with having her head submerged in oil thus choking and suffocating her. Then Bond finds her dead body in the same manner as Jill Masterson.

OK, it's the same "natural resource" as in TWINE, but it's so important nowadays that there seems to be few other challenging resources. It's true. It feels considerably more important and crucial than it did back in 1999. That said, while the choice of oil is no deal-breaker for me, it's a little disappointing that there isn't a slightly more original angle. ![]() |

She would look like a cormorant stuck in an oil slick! ![]() The Mercurius Affair: A James Bond novella - A tribute to Ian Fleming's creation

Yep...I'm thinking the iconic imagery and "sticky end" are one and the same. Drowned in oil, and left naked for Bond to discover. I'd put money on it.

Seems like a rather crude way to kill somebody.

Really filthy... and not very discreet, with drops of oil everywhere on the carpet... Yep...I'm thinking the iconic imagery and "sticky end" are one and the same. Drowned in oil, and left naked for Bond to discover. I'd put money on it. I wouldn't. Not only does that go beyond homage into the realm of silly, nonsensical rip-off (moreso than DIE ANOTHER DAY ever did), the villain hasn't started drilling for oil (and why would he want to waste it by killing her... it's not like cheap gold paint). Furthermore, there doesn't seem to be an "oil obsession" on Greene's part to justify such a bizarre usage. Lord, I hope that's not it. In my mind, the homage could still be FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, and even if it is GOLDFINGER, it's not going to be an oil-coated death. ![]() |

Oil, huh? Yeah, a little bit of a let down, but in the name of reason and practical sense I forgive them. Maybe we’ll be seeing a little bit more of the inky substance than we did in TWINE? Aside from the titles sequence, we never saw any Texas tea, just the pipelines. Unless you count that caviar pool. That looked a bit like…
Wait a second!!! She never once confirmed in her statement what kind of oil! Could be olive! Or baby? Hmmm… ![]() ![]() |
