Now on the CBn main page...
Found this interesting article/blog in Vanity Fair by Bond script writer Bruce Feirstein on how Bond films are named - and his comments on Quantum of Solace. Interesting. http://www.vanityfair.com/ontheweb/blogs/d...-feirste-2.html This post has been edited by Qwerty: 30 January 2008 - 16:26 |

Fairly basic stuff, but interesting I suppose. Nice to hear confirmation of the 'urban legend' surrounding TND's naming. How no one caught that I can't imagine.

I love that story of the Tomorrow Never Dies typo. I really can't believe that no one would have the guts to tell MGM that, uh, actually that was a typo (why not back up the title you decided on rather than let a misunderstanding... stand). All seems a bit silly.

Hmm. Feirstein puts a slightly different spin on the urban legend however. The legend usually has it that there was only one title "Tomorrow Never Lies" that was in consideration, and that the "dies" was all down to a typo by the assistant. Then, when it came out on the other end, everyone liked the mistake so much that they went with that.
This version here suggests that the producers and director did have both titles "lies" and "dies" in consideration and finally went with the former, but that the assistant typed the latter. So the title "Tomorrow Never Dies" seems to have been floating around already and at least a near possibility anyway and not purely the result of a clerical error. ![]() The new spy thriller by Peter Strongbear |

I guess if the error was on a fax to the printers then it would be less reversible...

Nice find, that was an interesting article.
I wish they would have caught the typo and gone with Tomorrow Never Lies as the title. That sounds much better in my opinion. It actually makes sense, and it sounds more like Fleming. It could have been the best title out of the Brosnan era. In regards to his comments about Quantum Of Solace, I must say I completely agree, it's going to be a giant hit. ![]() |

Well "Tomorrow Never Dies" could make sense. Imagine this (albeit corny) dialogue:
Bond: Carver, your newspaper is going down!!" Carver: Noooo!!! Tomorrow never dies!!! ![]() The new spy thriller by Peter Strongbear |

In fact, the urban myth is nothing more than an MGM cover-up of widespread steno typos. Wai Lin was originally called To Mo Row, and in tribute to her leather jumpsuit, the title was Tomorrow's Leather Thighs....

I can't believe a typo from an assistant has the power of changing a Bond film title. As Skudor says, someone should have corrected it pretty quickly.
But most of all, I can't believe all the producers and director had to choose between the brilliant "Tomorrow Never Lies" and the nonsense "Tomorrow Never Dies", and couldn't decide between them! ![]() The Mercurius Affair: A James Bond novella - A tribute to Ian Fleming's creation
