Now on the CBn main page...

'Sometimes anger can be much more dangerous...'

I know that the revelation that Amalric is basing Dominic Greene on a combination of Tony Blair and Nicolas Sarkozy is not new, but there are quite a few other useful snippets from this interview with 'thelondonpaper'. It also refers to how Greene manages to take on the greater physical presence of Bond. In addition to all the Amalric quotes, there are some interesting other points made by Craig and Kurylenko.

French actor Mathieu Amalric, who plays the film's sinister villain, said he modelled his character to some extent on Tony Blair.

He said: "I've been taking details, the smile of Tony Blair, the craziness of Sarkozy, he's the worst villain we've ever had. He's really dangerous. In fact he walks around thinking he's in a Bond film."

Unlike many of the Bond villains Amalric's character Dominic Greene will not be so hot with his fists.

He said: "He was supposed to have a secret skill. But we had this idea that maybe if the villain doesn't know how to fight, James Bond would be more surprised. Sometimes anger can be much more dangerous.

"I'm going to fight like in school. I was going to say 'like a woman'."

He joked of playing the part: "You are allowed to do things that you are not allowed to do in real life, especially with a woman."

A modern villain was "like a gas" and could be found anywhere.

I'm not sure I'm liking his comments too much - in fact it almost sounds like he's joking.

Fighting like in school (pulling hair, biting etc.?)... I could see this working, but it just doesn't sound plausible...

Basing the character on Tony Blair and Nick Zarkozy....WTF? Sounds like a way to make an over played villain... I smell more of a mix of Carver and Graves here...

I like his comment about women though, sounds like there might be a sadistic sexual thing going on there somewhere with this character... very Fleming.

Interesting and surprising way of taking into account the physical difference between Craig and Amalric. Smarter than a worn out secret skill, I'd say (I know very few international businessmen who also are martial arts experts...).

IMO, Nicolas Sarkozy could have plaid a perfect Bond Villain. Even the name is Bond-Villain-like, and he certainly has the looks biggrin.gif

In my head, I'm interpreting the 'fighting like in school' comment more along the lines of just fighting dirty. I mean if you were out matched physically by your opponent, wouldn't you resort to some dirty tactics? Its obvious from Amalric's early pics that he is not buff like Craig, and that his villian will be more along the lines of Carver guy, which is cool by me. In all honesty Bond throwing down with the bad guy was kinda over done in PB's films.

As far as the women comment goes, could that possibly have something to do with the the Camille's quest for revenge? Maybe Greene abused her, or a female family member of hers?

You are professional. You do not kill without reason.

The tie in with Camille sounds plausible.

I agree. As Amalric notes, this just seems to make sense. This is one fight scene I'm really looking forward to.

Why have I got visions of the Darcy/Cleaver fight in Bridget Jones' Diary? It was very funny.
