http://www.variety.com/article/VR111797853...yId=13&cs=1 QUOTE The Marc Forster-helmed film, loosely based on the Ian Fleming short story "Risico," finds 007 (Daniel Craig) dispatched to infiltrate a drug ring flooding Britain with heroin. "Royale" scribe Paul Haggis penned the screenplay, furthering an earlier draft written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. He I thought it was an original story? Make of it what you will... Found the story I was thinking of. Matt posted it here in December 2006. It was from an article in The Sun and claimed that BOND 22 would be based on 'Risico', shot in Rome and be directed by Martin Campbell. Just considered a rumour but there you are.

didn't Haggis say that is was NOT based on Risico or TPOAL at some point?
Besides, Risico was used extensively in FYEO. ![]() ![]() |

Just found that's its mentioned on the BBC News website - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7174490.stm.
I would have thought Variety would check their sources before putting a rumour like Risico into their report, especially if the rumours from a 2006 Sun article - do Variety usually report rumours without saying they're rumours? ![]() |

Wasn't Live and Let Die the one with all of the drugs? In fairness, I'm not sure we ever disproved the rumour. But it would certainly be disappointing if 'Variety' were rehashing an old rumour from over a year ago without any sort of evidence. |

The thing is that Variety, the BBC and the Sun (from over a year ago) all summarize the plot in remarkably similar words.
Variety, 6th January 2008
And The Sun, 12th December 2006 The only differences that the year has made is that it is now apparently "loosely" based on Risico and the word "Rome" is omitted. Why would a respectable organ like Variety drag up a tabloid story from over a year ago chop out the word "Rome" and add the word “Loosely” and try to pass it off as new news? (clearly the BBC story is just reporting on what the Hollywood Reporter and Variety have already printed). Answer: they are not, but the info is from the exact same place. Here is my guess, The Sun have a source at EON (they have had a number of note worthy scoops over the last couple of years concerning Bond), that same source leaks things to the press to test the water. The original Sun story was premature. They are now getting us ready to release the name of the film. Bond 22 is going to be called Risico you mark my words. Edit Actually scrap what I said above, it does seem that Variety are adopting rather suspect ways of putting articles together of late. This is the second copy they seem to have based on an Internet search in general and a Wikipedia search in particular. This post has been edited by Shrublands: 7 January 2008 - 15:59 |

I rather hope not actually... drug ring movies just tend to be somewhat dull imo. Not that LTK was dull, but the drug plot part of it was.
