Mexican actor claims he will be Bond's "Latin America Enemy"

Mexican actor, born in Nayarita but Juarense from heart, Joaquín Cosío, will try to kill the british agent James Bond on his twenty-second film.

Cosío, was chosen by the produces of 'Bond 22' (provisional title), to star as one of the baddies of the film, which will star once again british actor Daniel Craig.

"There are various enemies, and I'm one of them. I'm General Medrano, Bond's enemy in Latin America, but there are other enemies on Europe", he told to El Diario while phoning from Ciudad de México.

'Chosen among others'

The actor, which is half time between Mexico's main city and Ciudad Juarez, said that he was "very pleased" for his casting, as it was a worldwide affair. The same as Gemma Arterton, the new 'Bond Girl', who was chosen (according to Gone Hollywood) among 500 applicants.

Cosío remarked that it was "an excellent surprise" when he was told that he got the part, as he realised he beat during the castings actors such as Daniel Jimenez Cacho, who has starred on 'Y tu Mamá También' and 'Nicotina'.

"I'm really pleased to be chosen to participate on such a huge film, it's a great achievement that the film will have a mexican actor" Joaquín told the media.

He was nominated to the Ariel Awards in 2005 as 'Best Not-Leading Actor' for 'Matando Cabos'. He also said that his cooperation on the spy film directed by Marc Forster will begin in February 2008.

"I still don't know the orders, I don't really know how are my scenes going to be, but I know I'm going to film on Panama, Bolivia and London", the actor clarified, as he said that his scenes will be shot in English.

Happy to be on the same film as italian actor Giancarlo Giannini (who will play Rene Mathis), and the english actress Judi Dench, the mexican told that the movie "could be a great showcase that may allow him to do other kind of work", but he doesn't see this chance as an opportunity to go Hollywood.

"So far I'm not thinking about going there (Hollywood) even if this film has money from them. I'm very pleased with my current projects, some of them ready to premiere on Mexico" he said.

Thanks very much for posting this! I believe this is the direct link here? The first mention that I've seen of shooting taking place in Bolivia. Very cool indeed. Nice to see that there will be some sort of South American villain as well, in addition to all the Europeans.

I have to add (on the South American side) that a journalist from Chile asked me if I knew anything about location scouting on the Atacama Desert...maybe they'll use Chile as well.

He looks like good Bond villain material.

That matches up with the New York Times interview with Marc Forster mentioning that his location scouting "included a jaunt to Chile". It's at least been considered.

No wonder he looks so mah-vellously grumpy. I remember that sort of face on my children as babies, when they done make a plop.

Finally someone that actually looks like a real Bondvillain (and not the typical teenagers they usually cast as a villain these days). I hope his role will be a big one.

They've said they're going for a FRWL-style adventure... I like how there's not just one enemy. It's also good to have Mathis back on Bond's side. Should be very fun!
