I was hoping they will play OHMSS too but Spike TV is slowly reducing their Bond marathons until they replace them with Star Wars marathons next year. I hope if Spike gives up the rights to the classic Bond films then mabye AMC could play them like before, or even a network like Turner Classic Movies, where they would play them in widescreen and have no commercials. Looks like I'm going to have to pop in the OHMSS DVD this Christmas since its sort of a tradition to play that movie during Christmas.

Star Wars marathons?

Seems kind of odd that they're not even playing many of these Bond films in the evening.

Spike TV's television rights for all the Star Wars movies go into effect May of next year and in the following link comingsoon.net said that Spike intends to play the Star War movies in "highly promoted stunts and marathons."

As for not playing the Bond film in the evening, I think this is due to having a little success with the first Breakfest with Bond marathon back in August, and Spike is trying to milk as much ratings out of this time slot even reducing their usual full day marathons.

Definitely odd. Morning & early afternoon showings only are a little puzzling. Looks like Ultimate Fighter & reruns of CSI dominate the Thanksgiving schedule. rolleyes.gif

In my opinion, it's an absolutely idiotic idea. When I first wake up, I really don't rush to see if there's a Bond film on TV.

Thanks for posting this thread.

How long does TNN/ Spike's contract for the films run? They initially acquired 15 of the films in 2002 and then eventually obtained them all in 2003?

I hope another station takes the films. Spike is really annoying, IMO.

I did see that USA has the rights to Casino Royale. They will air it starting in June 2009. I guess that HBO will have Casino Royale in December.

Oh and I agree! Not showing OHMSS is unacceptable!

Indeed. It still remains the "christmastime" Bond film.

I don't exactly know when Spike TV's rights run out but I do know that when a station like this starts to shorten their marathons slowly like when they used to play Bond movies during their marathons from 9 a.m. et to 3 a.m. the next morning for several years but last year they started play them from 10 a.m. et to midnight with gaps in between where they would play CSI episodes, it usually means they are trying to get rid of them. Also the change for having their Christmas marathons being all day for at least 5 days of the marathon to this year where their only playing two in the morning of the same amount of days as in previous years. I don't think USA will pick the rights up since they usually like to play a bunch of TV shows like Law and Order and they hardly ever have that many movie marathons. They bought the rights to CR to premiere it and sell the rights to other stations. USA usually only premiere new movies and probably would not be interested in playing Bond marathons but a more likely choice to me would either be AMC or Turner Classic Movies. I would prefer TCM to play them since they play their movies in widescreen and without commercials but they probably could not afford to buy the rights of all the Bond films but just the classic ones. AMC has played the Bond movies before and did a better job with their marathons than Spike TV did and had more marathons than Spike TV which included a widescreen marathon they did in 2005.
