Sounds like a good sequence, whether it's for the climax, or not.

That is quite a scoop. Feels awkward hearing about the climax so soon, but it sounds like a pretty interesting sequence. I wonder if it's a foot chase - and so kind of like the African Rundown mixed with the Venice build up and surrounded by horses - or if Bond and villain snatch a couple horses out of the race for their chase.

The Times article is just throwing up a 404 page but the description here does make what little we know of the scene sound interesting. Before Casino Royale I'd been hoping for a good foot chase, though the free running scene in that film does make this concept sound a little repetative, I'm sure there'll be an interesting new twist on the pursuit.

Who could have believed that Bond 22 would have begun filming so soon? We've all heard these kinds of rumors before, but this one contains a fair amount of self-confirming detail that tends to suggest that it's more than uninformed speculation.

I like this idea, it seems to have that Bondian touch of being slightly outrageous. For some reason I can picture it in a Roger Moore film, but I'm sure Forster and co can go gritty with it.

Sounds like this could be a pretty original sequence. Love a good chase sequence. Thumbs up from me so far.

This sounds very much like something that would appear in a Roger Moore Bond film, I agree. This, along with the reports about there being more humor in this film have me a bit worried that we may be heading into Roger Moore territory with this one (although I like Moore's Bond and his films, I just don't think that Craig's Bond is well suited for that kind of film). ![]() ![]() |

I don't really get how you guys are jumping to this Roger Moore conclusion. Because it's a horse on rooftops? True Lies had that. Granted it was done with some comedic effect, but I think this sequence could be pulled off very well. Kind of crazy and exaggerated like the free running sequence from Casino Royale. But realistically and in good taste.
I'm not at all bothered by this "more humor" thing. I think it's all just a bunch of crap taken out of context and misinterpreted by the fans. They're not going to come off the most (arguable, I guess, but I'd say it is) critically acclaimed Bond film to date and throw it all out of the window for an Octopussy gag-filled movie. It's not going to happen. ![]() ![]() |

I think this sequence could be pulled off very well. Kind of crazy and exaggerated like the free running sequence from Casino Royale. I think that this is probably what they're going for with a sequence like this, and that's what bothers me a bit. I know that I'm in the minority opinion regarding the free-running sequence from CR (I didn't like it at all), but I really don't want to see another sequence like it, and especially one that could just as easily be a part of a Roger Moore Bond film (once again, nothing wrong at all with Moore or his films, it just doesn't fit the new tone of the franchise, IMO). Personally, I'd rather see a good, back-to-basics car chase. Since the last decent car chase in the series (more than 20 years ago with TLD), we've seen Bond involved with chases on virtually every other mode of transportation that there is (boats, tanks, skis, hovercrafts, free-running, and now horses), but no good car chases. I think that taking elements of the franchise, such as chases, back to basics is the way to go, rather than trying to come up with something more and more outlandish for Bond to do until these sequences just become a boring part of the formula rather than something exciting. Honestly, I'd like to see them take a page out of the Bourne playbook and craft a great car chase sequence that is talked about for years to come rather than a sequence that is only going to come off as a gimmick that is clearly in the film to try to top the free-running sequence. ![]() ![]() |

Apologies, folks. The link to the Times Online story should now be working properly.I think this sounds great! I was briefly in Siena last month (actually, the day after the first Palio race for this year took place) and it is a rather small, but gorgeous town. We were actually told a bit of the history of the Palio while there and it did sound like a genuinely fascinating - albeit, like Pamplona's San Fermin festival, somewhat archaic and now controversial - event, and one that has remained significant in the local calendar. If this is true, and assuming Siena isn't doubling for another location, it's interesting that we'll be getting two consecutive Italian-based climaxes. ![]() |
