New York (AP) — James Bond will soon be back, in bookstores.

DEVIL MAY CARE, a novel written by British author Sebastian Faulks and authorized by the estate of the late Ian Fleming, is due to come out in 2008, the centennial of Fleming’s birth. According to the Doubleday Broadway Publishing Group, Devil May Care< is set during the Cold War and, like so many Bond adventures, moves about a variety of scenic locales.

“My novel is meant to stand in the line of Fleming’s own books, where the story is everything,” Faulks, whose books include Birdsong, Charlotte Gray and the upcoming Engleby, said in a statement issued Tuesday by Doubleday.

Never read any of his books. I like the title though. Far better than the Young Bond titles thus far if you ask me.

Can't say I am surprised about the Cold War Setting.

I hope this feels like a "real" book as supposed to a pastiche.

Is this Faulks fellow a good author and a good choice?

Is this Faulks fellow a good author and a good choice?

YES and YES!

A literate yet story driven novelist, his writing is fine and sometimes exquisite. He belongs to a tradition of contemporary English/Anglo-centric writers that I love (Julian Barnes, Graham Swift, Pat Barker, Kazuo Ishiguru, William Boyd etc). I have not read all of his books, just the famous ones, Birdsong, Charlotte Gray and On Green Dolphin Street. He was too high brow and successful for me to even contemplate him writing Bond but, rest assured, at least IMHO, he is a great choice. He is the Daniel Craig of Bond authors - in the best possible sense. This book is going to be a smash. This is extraordinarily good news.

Whew, okay, now that I have a moment...

I don't know this Faulks feller, but if ACE says he's the "Daniel Craig of Bond authors" that's all I need to hear. And I trust those folks at IFP. They seem to know what they are doing.

Doesn't surprise me in the least that it's set in Fleming's timeline. I would have been shocked if it wasn't.

Title is good. Doesn't blow me away...but it's good.

Bring it on!!! smile.gif
