"Forster back in action with 'Bond 22'
By Tatiana Siegel and Borys Kit June 20, 2007 Marc Forster has signed on to direct the next installment in the James Bond franchise for Columbia Pictures and MGM. Daniel Craig will reprise his role as Agent 007 in the film, which has a working title of "Bond 22." Forster -- whose credits include "Stranger Than Fiction," "Finding Neverland" and "Monster's Ball" -- recently wrapped "The Kite Runner," based on Khaled Hosseini's best-selling novel." http://www.hollywoodreporter.com I'm cautiously optimistic. I hope it is indictative of the tone of the film. Very Apted-ish choice. I really liked Finding Neverland and enjoyed (if that is the word) Monster's Ball (wonder if Halle Berry recommended him?!). Great news. Funnily enough, I'm reading The Kite Runner now and did not know it had been made into a film. ![]() |

Definitely an interesting choice. I don't know what quite to say, but I am slightly surprised. Forster is not exactly renowned for having dabbed in the genre as other previous Bond directors had prior to their Bond experiences, but then again, this could add to the element of the new direction the Bond series is taking. His filming style is definitely classy.
He will also be the first Bond director of a nationality outside of the commonwealth, or am I mistaken? For some reason people make a big deal of this. This post has been edited by AndyPandy88: 19 June 2007 - 18:23 |

Is it? You bet. Forster's a more-than-solid director who I have a lot of respect for, and is capable of both drama (FINDING NEVERLAND) and humor (STRANGER THAN FICTION). With Craig, Haggis, and Forster, Bond has really become arthouse, and that's really interesting to me. ![]() |

I was hoping for Alejandro González Iñárritu or Eli Roth. Oh, well.

With Craig, Haggis, and Forster, Bond has really become arthouse, and that's really interesting to me. Arthouse? As much as I respect James Bond films and novels, I would not say the Bond franchise is developing into an arthouse at all. If you mean they have taken the level from being action-thriller to drama-thriller, then I would agree, but comparing it to arthouse cinema is a bit of a push. That would mean the very things that make Bond so successful - such as the mass audience, the fans and the spectacle - are invalid. However, if you meant by the fact that we have three tremendous industry figures involved, then by all means the talent is in, and I withdraw my previous paragraph. |

As much as I respect James Bond films and novels, I would not say the Bond franchise is developing into an arthouse at all. I don't mean really arthouse. I'd consider the Bourne films to kind of be the "arthouse" action franchise around these days, and it looks like Bond is moving in that direction - lots of artistic credibility behind the camera. However, if you meant by the fact that we have three tremendous industry figures involved, then by all means the talent is in, and I withdraw my previous paragraph. Yeah. I mean, if I saw the names Craig, Haggis, and Forster together on a project, my first thought would not be that they're making a James Bond film. It's absolutely remarkable that we have so much industry-recognized talent on a James Bond film. ![]() |

I'm somewhat optimistic. I've only seen Stranger than Fiction. I thought it had a lot of imagination, but somewhat dull and slow moving. It might have been because of the script.
My concern is if this guy can direct action. He hasn't really shown that. But then again, he hasn't directed an action movie yet. Let's hope he does a great job. |

Despite having disliked his previous films, I'm pretty optimistic about this choice as it indicates to me they are looking at strong story development and interesting plotlines, which can't be a bad thing.

Seems like a good choice. I don't know. I've never seen any of his movies, but I know most if not all his movies have been rather successful with the critics.
He's Swiss though. That's different. ![]() ![]() |
