NOT FAIR! The write up is appreciated but the reviews are COMPLETELY useless.
These are current reviews. No where do we get the flavour of the geo-politics of the time, the anticipation of the release, the comparison to Casino Royale, the question mark which hung over Connery/franchise. I want the reviews from the prevalent newspapers and magazines of the day from 40 years ago. I saw this movie as a kid during a re-release prior to the theatrical release of Diamonds Are Forever in 1971 and to me it was a monster epic. I was smitten for life. Current reviews of 40 year old movies are meaningless and are not worth the paper or cyberspace they're written or typed on. Still...thanks to CBn for the look back and the anniversary.
