I hadn't ever heard of these particular awards before, but still very nice for CR to be recognized in the area of stuntwork.

I should think so too, the Crane sequence is one of the best manual (non-cgi) stunts I have seen in a long time, and absolutely thrilling. Possibly only comparable to the car chase in French Connection.

Possibly only comparable to the car chase in French Connection. It's just one of the ways that Casino Royale works so well. Much more interesting to tell someone that this... or that... was real (as compared to, say, Die Another Day's iceberg). ![]() |

I agree, a return to real stunts. Ridiculous stunts can spoil a movie, the worst ones I have seen are True Lies, Mission Impossible (leap from helicopter to oncoming train), Cliffhanger (abseiling from one jet to another) actually I could go on but won't.
Suffice it to say that CR had fantastic stunts, also the fight in the stairwell was genius choriagraphy. (forgive spelling I am atrocious). |

The Madagascar chase is one of the most thrilling Bond set-pieces in history. I love it.

The Madagascar chase is one of the most thrilling Bond set-pieces in history. I love it. I agree, and actually, I think it's one of the most thrilling in all of action movie history. Not only is there beauty in Foucan's graceful movements and humor in the brute force of Craig's, but the interplay between Mollaka's simple thinking and Bond's quick out-of-the-box thinking adds a whole other dimension that pulls the opposite way in terms of who we think has the upper hand. Anyway, great to see CR get some well-deserved recognition, although I can't imagine what fight Pirates 2 had that was better than anything in CR. |

I'm kind of surprised it lost in the 'Best Work With A Vehicle' category.

Very good news. Everytime I watch that crane and chase sequence it just gets better and better. Like you say, slight surprise it didn't win in the vehicle category, but as the old saying goes - you can't win 'em all!
