'I would just say I'd never say never.'

Campbell kept new Bond on course
USA Today - Mar 16, 2007
By Mike Snider, USA TODAY

USA Today

Q: There's no commentary on either the DVD or the Blu-ray Disc. Is one planned for a future edition?

A: Yes, we are doing a commentary. I think (the studio) tends to milk these things (with Bond films). When I did GoldenEye, I did it with the producer (Michael G. Wilson). We'll probably do it with (the producers). There may be some deleted scenes.

Q: So far there's no director for the next Bond film (currently scheduled for 2008). Are you interested?

A: After GoldenEye, I was asked to do subsequent Bonds, but I declined because it felt as if I'd be repeating myself. But this one is based on a Bond that's more interesting. To be honest, I would just say I'd never say never.

Ah, so this is our first real evidence that another release of the DVD will be happening eventually.

So Campbell may indeed come back to direct 2.2. Great news!!

Cheeky buggers. I won't be buying it.

Nice to see Campbell isn't ruling anything out- I expect he was feeling very tired after making CR so didn't want to think about going back!

This sounds very promising. smile.gif

This was definitely expected given the bare bones edition everyone just bought this past week. Assuming Blu-ray wins the format war, Sony needs to give all those early adopters a reason to buy it again. Think about it, if you are already buying the best high-def picture & lossless sound, why on earth would you buy any of these movies a second time? Maybe "new ultra-remastered high-def picture & even better lossless sound" will be the marketing ploy. wink.gif My fear is that this minimalist edition now, better edition later, is going to become more widespread as studios try to extend the cash cow they have with DVD's now. Oh well, time will tell.

There may be some deleted scenes.

Personally, I'd take an extended version of CASINO ROYALE, even if extended by just a minute or two, with just a couple of deleted scenes, over (say) ten deleted scenes, no matter how good, that were just floating around without context.

I'd love to see a "director's cut" of CR, although for all I know Campbell may be perfectly happy with the film as it is and have no desire whatsoever to re-edit it. For some reason, though, I get the feeling that this would be an absolute and eternal no-no in Eon's eyes, one of those Bond series taboos that must never, ever be broken.

What really skewers my lamb is the conscious decision by the studio (EON, MGM) to "milk" the consumer.

To us, this is news and confirmation of what we were expecting. But, it was a decision made a long time ago by Le Studio. Makes you wonder who the real arch-villain is, eh? I mean, they all use capital letters don't they?

Or was it The Organization...... eek.gif eek.gif eek.gif Sony.

Is Campbell's A to the Q, "Are you interested?" Hollywoodese for "Yes, I am, and what's more I'm knee deep in negotiations"? wink.gif

Ah yes indeed, Loomis. One question answered, another shrouded in code.

Hmmm... Trilogy Directors? Could Campbell do this with Bond?

Not to get all morbid, but given Campbell's age (67 this year), I think it's safe to say that it's very unlikely he'll make another Bond film unless it's BOND 22, and I presume he'd like to squeeze in a couple more non-Bond features during his directorial career. So if he's going to never say never, he'd better start not saying it right now.
