Now on the CBn main page...

Was to appear opposite Julianne Moore in 2008 drama

According to Empire Online DC is about to sign on to "Blindness" a project to be directed by Fernando Meirelles who made excellent Constant Gardener and City of God
Details here:
http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=20502

It's based on an acclaimed novel by Nobel prize winner Jose Saramago and Julianne Moore is expected to co-star.

"Written in 1995, Saramago's novel tells the tale of an epidemic of blindness that paralyses an unnamed European city. In an effort to contain the outbreak, the government incarcerates the afflicted in an abandoned hospital outside town. Craig is tipped to play the role of a physician who loses his sight. Moore will play the central role of his wife, who pretends blindness in order to join him at the hospital."

Sounds like a classy project, with a credible director. Ooh, playing a blind man too. Oscar bait!

And glad to see he's avoiding the Bond typecasting.

Daniel Craig and Julianne Moore In Talks For 'Blindness'

Though he'll most likely be playing James Bond for the next several years, Daniel Craig has not stopped that franchise from letting him secure a slew of other roles to take on in between his adventures as 007. The actor currently has two pretty big films (The Invasion, The Golden Compass) coming out later this year, and is now in talks to star in Blindness -- adapted from Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago's novel -- and to be directed by Fernando Meirelles (The Constant Gardner). Also in talks to co-star alongside Craig is the very beautiful (and very talented) Julianne Moore.

Adapted by Don Mckellar, Saramago's book revolves around a blindness epidemic that sweeps through a contemporary city, paralyzing its citizens to a point where society is on the verge of breaking down. Craig and Moore will likely play book's two lead characters, a doctor and his wife. This whole "society on the verge of madness" storyline is familiar to Moore; the actress recently starred in Children of Men, which shares similar themes with Blindness, but on a much larger scale. Currently, there's no word on where the film will be set; the book takes place in an unnamed city in an unnamed country. Focus Features is handling all foreign sales, but there's no U.S. distribution deal in place as of now. Apart from Blindness, Craig is also set to reprise his role as 007 in the untitled Bond 22.

He's determined to let Bond be a benefit rather than be a curse like it was for others.

DC does have the advantage of having a reputation of being an acclaimed actor and more so than any other actor who has played Bond this early in their tenure.

Good luck to him, Constant Gardner & City of God were excellent in my view so working with Meirelles is a wise move on Craig's part.

Having already worked with Speilberg, Hirschbiegel & now possibly with Meirelles, one being the world's most successful director and the other 2 being 2 of Europe's most talented up and comers, what with also possible blockbuster His Dark Materials, DC is indeed building himself an impressive CV.

A balance between commercial projects and critical art house films this is a filmography that many actors would be honoured to have.

Moore did Laws of Attraction with Brosnan so it would be cool if she did a movie with Craig. thumbup.gif

I think it sounds like it could be a pretty interesting film. I'm a fan of both Craig and Moore.

This does sound like a very interesting project, and you're right in that it's great to see that Craig isn't being typecast as Bond. Hopefully he'll continue getting great work like this outside of Bond and that will possibly make him want to keep going in the role past Bond 23.

Finally, a film where he won't be playing the devil! And it won't matter a bit if he takes his shirt off...because no one will be able to see him. Seriously, this could rock. Moore's a classy actress. And this is a bold, intelligent and interesting choice by Craig.

Yeah, so was I. It seems he has chosen the Ed Zwick movie Defiance over this one. I'm kind of disappointed. Mainly because Zwick movies tend to be a little cheesy. Still, it's a WWII film so it should be exciting to see him in it.
