Limited to the first 500,000

Yup, as per the rumours, the first 500,000 people who register their PS3 in Europe will get a copy of Casino Royale on Blu-ray (a 50GB dual-layer Blu-ray disc encoded in 1080P High Definition AVC, to be incredibly precise!).

Explaining the offer, Darren Carter, VP Brand and Consumer Marketing said, The PLAYSTATIONNetwork unlocks the broad range of interactive entertainment features of PLAYSTATION 3. Its easy to set up, offers free online gaming, has great tools for staying in touch with friends and family, and includes a wide variety of content for download through the PLAYSTATIONStore.

All this, and more, will enable users to experience a whole new world of interactive entertainment, and that is why we are offering the phenomenal incentive of Casino Royale, on Blu-ray disc, to PS3 owners who register on the PLAYSTATIONNetwork. Casino Royale not only makes the most of the features and capabilities of the Blu-ray format, but is one of the most exciting and entertaining movies to debut on Blu-ray this year.

And heres some more info that will be of interest -

* Dont assume that because youve pre-registered via the website for Player ID that you will automatically be signed up for the Casino Royale Promotion. To get Casino Royale you must connect your PS3 to the network and register your console.

* There will be no extra copies of Casino Royale available if demand exceeds 500,000.

* If you live in France, Italy or Benelux youll receive your copy shortly after the movie is launched in your particular territory.

So now it's confirmed and just 500.000 copies of the Blu Ray Disc to be delivered...I just can't afford spending 600 on PS3, so I'll buy the BR Disc and then a few years later I'll buy a second hand PS3 if it's cheap biggrin.gif

PlayStation 3 enjoys record pre-orders

Monday, February 12 2007, 15:14 GMT

By David Gibbon
Advance orders for Sony's highly anticipated PlayStation 3 console have broken all records, with high street stalwart Woolworths revealing it has been taking one order every 20 seconds during the past week.

The state-of-the-art PlayStation 3 will go head-to-head with Microsoft's Xbox 360 when it hits the shops on March 23 and Woolies, one of the first stores to accept pre-orders, has admitted it has been staggered by the demand.

Gerry Berkley, Woolworths' head of games, said, "It's the hottest gaming system since the PS2 launched in 2000 - demand will outstrip supply."

With a retail price of 425, the 60Gb PlayStation 3 costs 125 more in the UK than in the US, but this has failed to deter those determined to try out Sony's latest dream machine.

They were high in the US and Japan too. The hardcore (and in this case, rich) gamers are always going to ensure the first shipment sells out, but after they're done, its still a 425 quid videogame system with no must-have games thats got to do something to beat the Xbox 360 and Wii...which it ain't doing :

Ahem, anyway, back on topic - 500,000 copies of Casino Royale in homes, with people showing off their Blu-Ray players to friends, is going to bode well for Bond 22. Much like Kananga, EON intends to flood the market with free samples, get everyone addicted to Bond, and then charge $10 a ticket to see Bond 22! Brilliant smile.gif

50GB. They better have some extra, extra special features to fill that space up.

I don't think the BD has any more extras than the DVD. However, it does have PCM uncompressed audio for those that have a receiver that will decode it. Should sound great!!
