Best Sound and a Rising Star award for Eva Green

Looks like the awards show on BBC tonight is not live, and the ceremony is already done.

Casino Royale wins 2 awards (technically)

Sound Award - Chris Munro/Eddy Joseph/Mike Prestwood Smith/Martin Cantwell/Mark Taylor
Rising Star Award - Eva Green

Full winners can be found: http://www.bafta.org/site/page287.html

YAY! Eva Green won! *all hyper* I knew she'd do it, she was absolutely amazing in the movie! Peat the girl in "Devil Wears Prada" by quite a shot if you ask me! wink.gif

But none for DC? DARNNNNNNNNNN.... *pouts* That was unfair. MOST unfair. But alas, we know his name. And although he has no need to prove himself in my eyes as a 007 fan, he'll leave the awards committees shaken and stirred... just you wait! wink.gif

I think given the competition - Forrest Whittaker's amazing performance especially - Craig's chances were always slim. I still see the nomination as a huge vindication. Both of his critics, but also of the part itself. James Bond may most often be a star vehicle, but Craig's proved - not unlike Dalton before him - that it can be so much more. And the nomination is the first real acknowledgment of that.

Kudos to Green, obviously. Again proving that 'Bond Girl' doesn't automatically mean 'one dimensional'. The movie, agreed, did have great sound. But even the nominations mean a lot. I adore Meheux's photography (in most things he does, not just CR), but Children of Men's genuinely did make the jaw drop in its technical prowess and grit. Ditto the design. And United 93 was tough to beat for editing.

Vis-FX is a tough one, because so many of CR's were done indetectably - the miniature plane and hangar everyone thinks was really there, the building that people think was really sunk. Pirates' FX were often hugely impressive, but always noticable. And thus easier to vote for.

Screenplay - the best stuff, often, was Haggis' updates, rather than the direct adaptation. But, again, King of Scotland probably deserved the gong. Arnold's fantastic music maybe didn't stand out from TWINE of TND, which I also consider teriffic Bond scores.

But yeah, as I keep saying - the nominations speak volumes. It means a lot to be listed. Oscar may have missed the boat a bit, but if Bond 22 does what it should do, expect that balance to be redressed - as it was with return of the King.

Isn't it a GREAT time to be a Bond fan? :-)

2 awards from 9 nominations is OK, but I expected another award somewhere on the list.

But I must say, it's great for a Bond movie to even be nominated, as stated above.

Still, Casino Royale proved that Bond movies could get nominated (and even win). So who knows? If Bond 2.2 is as great as Casino Royale, there may be more awards in store for the Bond series. This is just the beginning.....

Many congrats to the sound team and Miss Green. Too bad Craig didn't win but at least he was nominated(something that the "geniuses" at the Oscars failed to do) and he did win this award-

He also won another award, perhaps the best award he could get against his critics, i.e., the last laugh.

Pretty much what I expected. A great achievement for CASINO ROYALE to get so many nominations in the first place. We all know that it's amongst the very best Bond films ever made, and that's all the critical praise that it really needs - from the fans. Congratulations to not only the sound team and Eva Green, but for everyone associated with the film. It shall go down as a classic.

Good to see Eva Green win an award, and CR win an award for Sound.

Dissapointed for DC, but he had very strong competition.

Incidently, what did everyone make of Eva Greens hairstyle,
it looked like she had just been through a tornado.

Her hair, in most post Royale outtings, has seemed to have had a mind of it's own, going every which way. Strange.
