The Colonial Theatre (best known for being the film location for THE BLOB) is hosting 4 Sean Connery Bonds in March. Check our their website: http://www.thecolonialtheatre.com/index2.html and click on Upcoming Events and scroll down the page a bit (as of this writing). Hope to see some of the CBn'ers there. When I lived in New Jersey I used to go to this theater all the time. It's still my favorite and I wish I could go to this. I loved sitting in the first row of the balcony to watch movies.

Less than a week away. Let's hope for some better weather than we are getting today. Extended forecast: Mostly Sunny--high 39 degrees. I'm in, as are some friends. Who all from CBn is going? I presume Johnboy 007 and Prof Dent. Anyone else? ![]() ![]() BOND-It's not just a name, it's a lifestyle. Two-time UNDEFEATED MOLE Champion: Player and Mole. |

Indeed-having just gotten home myself. The print was not bad at all (save for one very poor splice) and the crowd great. My friends and I certainly enjoyed it.

I wrote this up Sunday night but I'm a little late on posting it because I've been traveling on business most of the week.
I made the trip to the Colonial Theater to check out From Russia With Love. I'll give some brief thoughts on the theater but won't go into a lot of detail because there is a good history of it on their website. Suffice it to say, it's a really neat place to see a movie. I sat in the balcony which was a real treat beucase I can't remember the last time I sat in the balcony of a movie theater. Definitely not your local multiplex of today. Prior to the movie starting, there was a slideshow playing on the screen of upcoming events at the theater intermixed with advertisements from local businesses. All this was set to a mix of Bond music which I'm guessing was from homemade compilation CD. This is all from memory. Official soundtrack music included: the James Bond Theme from Dr. No; the title songs to From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, & Thunderball; & Escape from Piz Gloria. There was another version of the James Bond Theme played that I know I've heard before but can't remember the compilation CD it came from. There was also an instrumental version of the You Only Live Twice title song. There were a few others but that's all I can remember. At 2:00 pm, one of the theater volunteers came up to the stage & gave a quick rundown of some various James Bond facts/trivia. FRWL was the second James Bond movie, the novel was one of President Kennedy's top 10 books, etc. He also reminded everyone that this was the first of four Bond movies playing at the theater in March. As soon as he walked of the stage, the movie started with the gunbarrel opening - no United Artists or MGM intro, just the white dot moving across the screen with the Bond theme playing. In retrospect, two things stand out for me. First, Bond 22 needs to get back to the traditional gunbarrel opening. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I saw it again on the big screen. The gunbarrel in CR worked for that movie & I liked it but time to get back to basics. Second, after watching FRWL a few times on the Ultimate Edition DVD's, I really appreciate how much they have cleaned-up the picture. It's amazing how much all of the dust, specks, & hairs, really stand out to me now. Don't take this as a knock on the theater - they are only showing the print they have which was in suprisingly good shape. At the end of the movie, most everyone in the theater clapped with appoval which is also something you never see at you local multiplex today. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. FRWL is one of my favorite Bond movies & it was a real treat to see it on the big screen. I doesn't look like I will make it to see GF but am planning to check out TB. ![]() ![]() |
