Consider this as a form of foreshadowing there Martin, as you will probably be disappointed with the official DVD too.

Supply and demand. The fools who buy pirated DVDs are worse than the people who burn them.
Mr. Martin needs to get used to the idea that people will do this. But with that said, he shouldn't lose sleep over this because the legitimate DVDs will sell like hotcakes regardless. |

I support this film 100%. But why are people surprised by this? Like Martin said, with the technology that we have, it's easy. Anyone who was going to see the movie in the theatres did so (or will do so). They, most likely, haven't lost any money. No one who REALLY supports the 007 franchise would buy a bootleg instead of seeing the film in the theatres. People who buy bootlegs are generally people who don't really care one way or another. They're not dying to see it, but if they can see it for $1.39 (or whatever the cost was), they might say "sure, I'll try it". In turn, if they like it enough, they may want to buy the actual release when it comes out.
This movie is the exception, but for the most part, IMHO, Hollywood has been churning out crap for the past decade, and the price keeps going up (almost $9.75 for one ticket!). THAT is why they are losing money! NOT because of bootlegs. Again, I'm speaking in generalities. Of course there ARE exceptions. |

I don't know why, but I find it kind of funny that he's expressing his disappointment about the pirate copies yet he bought one.

Anyone who was going to see the movie in the theatres did so (or will do so). They, most likely, haven't lost any money. Have to disagree with you on this point. While hard to quantify precisely, the massive availability of bootlegged DVDs in China has a significant impact on the Chinese box office receipts. And the impact on legit DVD sales/rentals is probably even greater. ![]() |

Campbell should have bought the GoldenEye UE DVD instead, another film of his which also can't be seen as was originally intended (due to the cropping). Of course the GE UE looks a lot better than any current CR bootleg, but if he is really that concerned about how his movies look, he should be complaining about this official release too. Perhaps even more because over official releases you have the control.

I'm sure Martin Campbell and all the people from EON are doing alright though. Is there a place where you got your information about sales and rentals in China? I'm curious. |

Someone actually came to my door offering to sell me pirate copies of Casino Royale (and Borat). I refused point blank. Regardless of the morals involved here, the picture quality always sucks on these things. I'm happy to wait for the real thing.
