Where is the horrid Pirates of The Carribean 2 on that list? I saw it with my 10 year old on opening weekend.
Also, where is Da Vinci Code, the most over hyped movie in years, on that list? It does not surprise that there are a lot of art house flicks ahead of Casino Royale. What is so outstanding is that CR is the only movie this year that has made a meaningful impact both box office wise as well as critically on a GLOBAL level. I'm quite certain Barbara Broccoli has the world at her feet at the moment and can call the shots the way she wants over the next few years. |

The latest Entertainment Weekly featured two Best Films lists. CR was number one on the second list.

I don't know how important AOL's moviefone is - but nevertheless - Casino Royale is listed as #4
(although they have rather weird films listed there as well ;-)) http://movies.aol.com/movie-photo/best-movies-of-2006 But what I really like in there is the link : Read staff Top 10 lists - and there you can find: Most Vindicated Actor of the Year: Daniel Craig in 'Casino Royale' or And then there's the whole blond controversy. Sorry my friends, but or Craig gives us a ferociously great, franchise-reviving performance that works so well because a) he's a badass, and and New Bond Daniel Craig slipped on the 007 tux like a second skin.(#6) DO I have to mention that I like this kind of lists very much ;-)))) Brittany |

While I was kind of shocked Entertainment Weekly picked CR as its best film on one critics list, I've been looking to see how many other critics' lists it ended up on. It's good to see because it shows a popular film can also have crossover appeal and doesn't have to be The Queen, Babel or Letters From Iwo Jima to get respect.
I found one paper that had two critics weigh in and neither had CR on their lists. But what I did find kind of weird was what the second did have -- Stranger Than Fiction at 1 and Nanny McPhee at 10. I'm all for freedom of expression, but were either of these that good or does this critic just have a thing for Emma Thompson? ![]() "You didn't think I'd miss this performance, did you?"

I'm not so shocked about this because not only is this a Bond movie, it's a 'good (movie) thriller.' This is the first movie that not only acted like a Bond film but a general espionage film and I think that's why it's accepted on many of the critics lists.

In the Yearbook '06 issue, article Oscar Watch - In the Race for Academy Gold, Rolling Stone says:
Best Actor And just to shake up the wimp Academy, why not a nod to mad satirist Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat)? Or, better yet, a toast to Daniel Craig (Casino Royale), who could become the first James Bond to get props from the original Goldfinger. |

It would be nice to see the Academy do just that and shake things up a wee bit. I'd be extremely happy to see a nomination for either Sacha Baron Cohen or Daniel Craig, although expect the more likely nominees will be Leonardo di Caprio and Forest Whitaker.
