Do we know if there has ever been a "time value for money" comparison to take account of inflation i.e. if the average price of a ticket for TB was 2 and CR was just say 10 .. which film put "more bums on seats" ???
There was rampant (indeed!) inflation in the 1970's and so always more recent films will claim higher places in the All Time Blockbuster ( ![]() |

Also interesting to note that (according to BoxOfficeMojo) CR has now passed DAD on a day-to-day basis in the US Box office.
Monday, Jan 1st was CR's 46th day in release with an estimated $155.4 Million. After 46 days, DAD had brought in about $154.0 Million. (Before anyone else says it, these numbers are not adjusted for inflation.) ![]() |

I don't think so. According to experts, it needs 700 million worldwide to break even.

But you know the point I was trying to make ... . after 40 years .... we need to take into account inflation cos maybeee TB was more successful than ever in terms of bums on seats !!! Certainly, my own situation is that I have NEVER EVER seen ANY film as often as I have seen CR !! I might have strayed to see The Sound of Music twice .... but that was before the war ... the Vietnam War. I've only( ![]() |

There was rampant (indeed!) inflation in the 1970's and so always more recent films will claim higher places in the All Time Blockbuster ( There are charts out there that use the best measure...tickets sold. Thunderball, based on that measure is in a league of it's own. Thunderball in North America sold almost as many tickets as CR, DAD and TWINE put together (*TOGETHER*). About 72 million tickets in comparison to the average 24 million tickets for the latest three. ;-) This post has been edited by HildebrandRarity: 2 January 2007 - 17:24 |

WOW, I never thought I'd say this ... but CR is a total failure!!! How could this happen? ... the producers will go back to Brosanan beggin him to come back for the next one! Us Craig supporters were wrong all along ... the all wise and intellgent CnB'ers were right on the money (all $7 worth)!!! I am going to go and hang my head in shame!!!
LOL! I could write posts like this until bond 22 comes out ... it's so much fun!!! HE HE! This post has been edited by mario007: 2 January 2007 - 18:07 |

But you know the point I was trying to make ... . after 40 years .... we need to take into account inflation cos maybeee TB was more successful than ever in terms of bums on seats !!! The last inflation adjusted figures that I saw were 2002 dollars and Thunderball took in over $800 million when adjusted for inflation then. I am assuming that for Casino Royale to tie Thunderball it will probably have to take in almost $1 billion. ![]() ![]() Robert Brown was Admiral Hargreaves in TSWLM, OP, AVTAK, TLD and LTK damnit Enforcer, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Roger Moore Proud defender of Barbara Bach, Carole Bouquet, Barbara Carrera, Maryam D'Abo, A View to a Kill, Never Say Never Again and The Spy Who Loved Me. |
