According to boxoffice estimates CR passed the $150,000,000 mark at the North American boxoffice on Friday 29th Dec. Its interesting to not that the film is still achieving decent theatre averages which are on a par to other films in the top 10 apart from the top 3. Shame the film is only playing at 1500+ theatres. Nevertheless CR should pass DAD's $160.9mil sometime in January to become the highest grossing Bond film (numerically) in North America. |

I will be more than happy if it ends up north of 170 million! What are the chances ... considering that DAD only made 10 more million from this point until the end of its run. Will CR's legs allow it to accumulate more than 10 mil?

Will CR's legs allow it to accumulate more than 10 mil? Yes...considerably. Well, no, not really. It'll probably hit about $163 million total. |

It all depends on how long Sony wants to keep it out. The longer it is released, the more money it will make, so I believe it is highly probable that it will get $20M more if they keep it released longer.

If the plans for a March DVD release are true, then CR should be around the theatres for at least a couple of more months. Looking at BoxOfficeMojo.com, the film has performed very well over the Christmas week. I anticipate it should have no trouble getting to the $165 to $170 million mark, depending on what the theatre bleed-off is like in January.

Thanks English Agent and Qwerty. Let's hope there are still enough theaters in the big cities to bring in $12M more....Not that I'm bashing Mr. Brosnan, just pulling for the new guy that wasn't given a hope, lol.

After a certain point it's not profitable for the theaters to keep playing the film. Considering, as the rumor goes, Sony is eying a March release for the DVD, and the fact that January is usually a lull for Hollywood, it has a very slim chance of doing 20 more. At best it probably only has 15 left in it. Realistically it's more like 13. I'd love to be proven wrong though. ![]() ![]() |

Unless there's a precipitous drop off in the next couple of weeks, Sony will at least keep it in U.S. cinemas until it breaks the record held by "Die Another Day". DAD made another 11 million by mid-January, so expect CR to do similar numbers. And then disappear.
It's #9 for the year at the U.S. Box Office - that's something to be excited about as well. And it could end up at #8. Amazing stuff. |
