Now on the CBn main page...

UK box office exceeds $87 million

According to 'screendaily' UK film trade source.

The boxoffice total for CR in the UK at the end of Dec 17th
now stands at a whopping:-

$86,815,868

The film is currently No 2 for the year so far!

Can it catch POTC:DMC which grossed around $98,000,000
to be the No1 film.

Either way its a shed load of money for CR.

Well, its currently the christmas holidays for schools, so those who worked or are busy on weekends may use the holiday to catch up on films, so Casino may make up those millions.

Not being entirely familiar with the UK box office (but knowing that Casino Royale has done some very solid business!) what does everyone think?

#1 would certainly be another nice label for the film.

I had a look at the pattern of percentage drops for DAD during the same period 4 years ago and saw that DAD gained quite a large bit of business over these two upcoming weekends and it even had to battle it out with LOTR:TT and HP. With lesser competition than those two CR should see solid business.

I reckon it will be a very close call btw POTC and CR...

Well it's not that far off so it's definitely possible, but according to I think Variety, they projected it stopping at about 98 million. I don't know. That's pretty damn close and with Christmas upon us... who's to say..

Looks like it may end up very close which would be a great success for CASINO ROYALE.

So if Casino Royale overtook PotC in Jan 2007, it would still be #2 in 2006? Or does it mean films released in 2006, no matter when their run ends?

It means released in 06, including money made in 2007. This is why DAD was knocked out of the US top 10 for the year, Chicago and Catch me if you can were both released at the end of December and made most of their money in January 2003.
