It passed both MI3 and Click! this weekend (Dec 15-17) and holds the #10 position.

..........CR did well again in the US its estimate of $5.7mil
now puts CR only $900,000 behind DAD at the same equivalent day.
DAD made aroud $4mil for the same weekend.

Also the international total had reached $266.6mil before the weekend,
meaning the film has grossed over $400mil worldwide.
When the international figures for the weekend come out soon,
CR should easily cross DAD's $271mil to be the highest grossing Bond film internationally......and its not even the Xmas holidays yet, plus
new openings in S.Korea later this week, Italy Jan 5th and China Jan 30th.

P.S. from what i've read on the forums recently, seems one or two people
owe others some money on bets.

Regards: English Agent

Great news. No Bond film has made it into its year's US top 10 since TOMORROW NEVER DIES (10 in 1997). DIE ANOTHER DAY only made it to 12.

I guess CASINO ROYALE is unlikely to get knocked out of the top 10, unless ROCKY BALBOA does absolutely riproaring business (I doubt that Stallone's latest will gross as much as CR, though).

Particularly pleasing to see CR pass MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III, even though I like that film. The first two M:Is grossed significantly more than any of the recent Bonds at the American box office, I believe.

Let's not be too hasty about the top ten thing...DAD was all set to be No.10 for the year, but two end of year releases, Catch me if you can and Chicago knocked it to No.12. The same could happen here, Night at the museum will probably be huge, and I guess Dreamgirls is this year's Chicago, so its still a bit premature. However, this weekend CR saw a much smaller drop than DAD in its equivalent weekend in 2002, and its now tracking less than a million behind DAD, its sure to finally overtake it next weekend.

Perhaps, but CR will likely pass Talladega Nights and possibly Over The Hedge as well to secure it's Top 10 spot...

But today is the thirteenth...

Congratulations Casino Royale!

Fantastic movie that expands beyond its genre.

Talladega Nights was so bad. How did it manage to do so well?

I've wondered this myself. Worse yet, although both Talladega Nights and Click were also SONY films, they released in more US theaters than Casino. I've never been able to understand why.

It seems that comedies usually are able to get more theatres than any other genre - Scary Movie 4 got 3674(!!) theatres. I guess comedies are seen to have the broadest appeal...though personally I'd rather watch a black and white Hungarian documentary about potato picking than anything with Ferrell or Sandler in it rolleyes.gif

HF and CR are the only movies in the top 10 that are still on national release, so they are the only two movies that can actually go up. The chance of any movie opening and grossing more than CR in two weeks is pretty slim.

What I'm wondering is how this year's US number one, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST, managed to rake in a staggering $423,315,812 (the number two, CARS, grossed "only" $244,082,982). It's the sixth highest-grossing film of all time in the States. Amazing. So, what's so great about it, exactly? confused.gif
