Now on the CBn main page...
USA Network beat out Spike TV, TNT and FX to get the TV rights for Casino Royale starting in June 2009. Deal was said "to be in the neighborhood of $20 million". http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/conten...08d99fc7380346e ![]() ![]() |

Disappointing. I'd really like to see Spike get the rights to all 21 official films. I'm not sure if they have GE (I know USA still airs it), but I know they have Dr. No through DAD (including NSNA) and it'd be great to see them air them all for their marathons.
But yeah, 2009 seems like a long way off. I'm pretty sure CBS (parent of Spike) didn't get the rights to DAD until 2005, I believe, so the timeframe seems appropriate. EDIT: Spike does have GE, thus, Spike has the first 20 official films and NSNA. But will not have CR. Grr. Nonetheless, I bet they butcher the torture scene. I doubt it. Ratings vary between mediums, but Casino Royale is rated PG-13. USA is also cable and thus outside of FCC oversight. They could just slap a rating of TV-14 on it and it'll be fine. The torture is tough, but I've honestly seen similar stuff on TV. There's been some stuff on 24 that has been just as brutal and some of those hospital and CSI shows get away with a lot. ![]() ![]() |

Touche' K1Bond007. And it is 3 years away. So who knows how lax the FCC willbe by then. I just hope they keep the "The whole world is gonna know.." line in there. It'd be a shame, really, to not have that scene-maker in there.

I do think that USA has the most exposure as far as the cable channels go.

So am I correct in saying that USA paid about $20m for its broadcast rights and ITV paid about $20-25m for its broadcast rights, offsetting Casino Royale's expenditure by about $45m?

I think a couple other countries also picked up TV rights for CR, adding to that total. ![]() ![]() "Jack Wade, CIA." Bond's American contact 1995-1997 |

It's pretty clear the film is well into the black now, between that, $100 million or so of product placement money, and $390 million in worldwide grosses. That's not even counting any merchandising deals. This post has been edited by Fro: 16 December 2006 - 16:07 |

Another article on it:
http://www.variety.com/article/VR111795593...yid=14&cs=1 Of note: HBO gets a 15 month exclusive run starting next December before USA gets the license in June 2009. There are 3 two-month windows in USA's 5 year license where it can be played on another network. The license for those will probably pull in another 5 million+. Pirates 2 went for 25 million (compared to Casino's 20). ![]() ![]() |
