Nominations to be announced on 23 January

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that seven films are in consideration for achievement in Visual Effects for the 79th Academy Awards. Three will be nominated.

The films are listed below in alphabetical order:

Casino Royale
Eragon
Night at the Museum
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Poseidon
Superman Returns
X-Men: The Last Stand

I believe You Know My Name is also under consideration among like 20 songs or something. That was announced last week.

Can't see CR winning this category. Too many other 'obvious' choices. CR's effects were a little too understated to sway the academy, imo. And Bill Nighy's make-up alone would get my vote.

Swedish Murder Machine
I gotta admit I always wanted to get Edgar Allan Poe in a headlock. That thing is like a pumpkin!

Oh yeah, the pain. It's not so bad. I hacked up some blood a couple of minutes ago and there was this pink chunk about the size of, uh... one of those little kiwifruit, but I don't feel anything missing, so I'm not too worried.

Probably won't win for the same reason Brock Samson said, but it is still cool that it got nominated. thumbup.gif

I hope it wins but it seems doubtful frown.gif, CR's Visual Efx are nothing compared to the other movies up for nomination.

Yeah there are too many visually good films within the nominations for CR to win but there have been upsets so you never know.

It's not nominated. These were announced as the films under consideration to be nominated. Right now there are 7. For the final nominations it will be dwindled to 3. There was a report last week with like 20 songs up for consideration to be nominated and YKMN was one of them.

Whether it actually gets nominated is a different story. I just thought this was interesting enough to post here.

Great to see that there's a possibility that it could be nominated for something, although I don't expect that it will receive a nomination, at least not in this category anyway.

I'm kind of surprised, due to the fact that CR doesn't really have anything that required amazing visual effects, especially when you look at the other movies up for nomination.

Still, I'll take it. This might be as good as it gets, unfortunately, unless YKMN can get nominated or maybe sneak in nominations in other smaller categories. If we can't get major nominations in the Golden Globes, something tells me we won't get them for Oscars.

Oh well, there's always the BAFTA's, right? biggrin.gif

Nice to see it get to this stage, although really cannot see it winning. I think that making to the final three, and hence getting an Oscar nomination for CASINO ROYALE, would be a major achievement. Fingers crossed for that.
