This is so stupid. Why not release the 2 disc versions individually?

It works.
I for one had some of the Old Bond DVDs. I had no real need to get most of the new ones yet now I pretty much HAVE to since the option of getting them individually isn't open to me. Plus, don't think I don't realize that they're just throwing in DAD with the rest of the good Bond films because no one else will buy it otherwise. ![]() |

Meh. On one hand it's super lame that they're making you buy the sets to get any bonus goodies, but I suppose it may be a welcome alternative to those who just want 1 or 2 movies and don't care too much about bonus features.

Could this ridiculous and annoying attitude & way that the USA and Canada (where I am located)are being treated as 2nd class customers of the world when it comes to buying Bond DVD's possibly have some bearing on why Casino Royale is not doing as well at the box office compared to the rest of the world? As always I was there opening night & went back a 2nd time even though I greatly resent the way Canada & the USA are treated as fans & customer base for the DVD's.

I personally think that's too big a leap to make. CR has already passed the $100 million mark in the US. It IS annoying that you can get the 2 disc versions separately in the UK, and soon only the single disc versions in the US but, I don't think the box office take has anything to do with that decision.

Could this ridiculous and annoying attitude & way that the USA and Canada (where I am located)are being treated as 2nd class customers of the world when it comes to buying Bond DVD's possibly have some bearing on why Casino Royale is not doing as well at the box office compared to the rest of the world? I don't think so. I suspect these decisions were made well before CR had even opened. And CR is doing just fine in the US. It's too bad it never got to enjoy a Number 1 weekend here, but it still had a great opening (if not as good as DAD) and has held on amazingly well. It's had less erosion week-to-week than DAD, which means that it may yet equal or surpass it at the American BO. It still managed to defeat Blood Diamond this weekend and hold onto Number 4, which is pretty impressive. I think that the way we in North America are being treated DVD-wise has more to do with marketing. They've decided that this is how they can make the most money off their product. Keep the bonus features as value-added content for the box sets to insure that those keep selling while offering stripped down versions to appeal to the crucial, casual Walmart buyer who doesn't care about special features, isn't likely to shell out $70 for a box set, but may well pick up Goldfinger and "the one with Halle Berry" if they're cheap enough on their own. Of course, this strategy also leaves them the option to reissue the individual DVDs as the full 2-disc versions (from the box sets) just in time for the theatrical release of Bond 22, and make even more money off the same product... I was toying with the idea of going out to ebay and purchasing 20 double DVD "AMARAY" keepcases. Then contacting sony and purchasing the slip artwork featured in the US slim cases. Anyone know the best number to contact sony for such a request?

Who is the BIG corporate idiot who decided that releasing just one disc on the ULTIMATE collection is enough for the US consumer.
Dear Sony, MGM, UA, and Eon - Will someone with half a brain fix this problem. A majority of us would like to get some of these films, but not all since we already have them from a few years ago. Just getting a single disc without the extras is so pathetic. I know - let's start a website called DontBuyUltimateBondDVDs.com. The press might just have a field day with that. ![]() |
