> UK Box Office - Casino Royale Overtakes Die Another Day
English Agent
Sub-Lieutenant

Group: Crew
Enlisted: 26 November 2006
From: Cambridgeshire, UK

Now on the CBn main page...

[sub]$60 million already in first two weeks[/sub]

According to 'Variety' (US film trade source)

Casino Royale has taken a staggering equivalent of $60,000,000
in the films first 2 full weeks in the UK.

This beats the $57-59 mil (dependant on which source figures are obtained from) accumalated for DAD's entire run in the UK.
DAD in itself had a considerable boxoffice improvement over TWINE.

In fact CR is now some way ahead even of 'POTC-Dead Mans Chest',
Both films had huge 1st week openings in the UK with 'Pirates..'
just topping CR for the week. But CR had a fantastic second week
boxoffice haul, with a much lower percentage drop.

To put things into perpective, 'Pirates...' grossed just short of
$100,000,000 here, so it is now very possible, that we could see
CR reach that magic figure in the UK.

Incidently, i thought the film was terrific.

Wow, that's great news thumbup.gif So I guess this means we don't need to worry about there being a huge leap back to the over-the-top tone, since this style of Bond movie is working so well

It's great to see that Daniel Craig and the new style are doing well with audiences. I can't imagine how disappointed I would have been had the film underperformed at the box office, thus forcing a return to the more outlandish adventures after being treated to the great, serious Bond film that we got with Casino Royale

I hope this UK success is repeated across Europe.

Btw, is there a link to the actual Variety article which reports this?

Went to see if for a third time on Friday night with my wife. Our local muliplex (Odeon) was fairly quiet at 7pm, but the screen showing CR was almost full! A good mix of families, teenagers, older people and young couples. CR was very well received and I can see it continuing to do well in the run up to Christmas in the UK.

Does anyone know what the admissions are in the UK and what DAD's admissions were?

Stirling has increased massively vs the US Dollar in 4 years so it would be interesting to know what portion of UK box office as reported in US dollars is attributed to the currency appreciation and what portion is attributed to actual admissions.

Thanks
