The free Film Festival Under the Stars will be held on the opening weekend of the Edinburgh International Film Festival on August 11 and 12. Open-air film screenings on a giant screen at The Mound precinct next to the National Gallery will be open to everyone, and over-18s can enjoy a complimentary glass of whisky. This year's screenings include The Pink Panther, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Top Hat, Diamonds Are Forever, Swing Time and Gregory's Girl. More than 9000 people enjoyed a variety of classic films, animation and music videos in the inaugural two-day event last year. Ginnie Atkinson, managing director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, said: "We are delighted to be able to stage Film Festival under the Stars again this year. "Our successful partnership with The Famous Grouse allows us to show films in this unique and highly accessible location to a wide cinema audience. "The films chosen this year are around the theme of Ginger (Grouse) and Diamond, as it is our 60th edition." Tara Kildare, sponsorship manager for The Famous Grouse, said: "Last year's event was such a resounding success that we wanted to repeat it." A galaxy of big screen stars will be appearing at this year's main festival - including Sigourney Weaver and Sir Sean Connery. |
