Now on the CBn main page...

[sub]New reprint of the 007 book by John Cork and Bruce Scivally[/sub]

-----

I've just seen that The Legacy will be on sale from august, does anyone knows if it's just a reprint or some pages will be added? 'Cause I was looking for it on ebay, but if in august a new one with new pages will be released I'll wait for it.

This is odd.

Here's the new edition on Amazon UK - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0...9269121-7790832

And the original on Amazon UK - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0...9269121-7790832

Here is the new edition on Amazon US - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/081098252...glance&n=283155

What is odd is that both are 320 pages, but the publisher differs between the original and these new editions. This new edition is also considerably cheaper.

Is there anything new though? confused.gif

Yep, it's the reason why I asked. I can't understand, they seems to be the same book but the price makes me wonder, as for the publisher in they are selling one published by Abrams in Italy with a different cover.

Now I really don't know what to do, 'cause if I preorder the new one from Amazon I'll pay almost the same than for one used on ebay. confused.gif

No, there's nothing new or updated in this edition. Looks like it's just a less expensive reprint, which means it may not be as high quality as the Boxtree edition. If you can get the Boxtree at the same price, I'd say go with the original, especially if it's a first edition.

This is very much the same format as The Beatles Anthology, so it surprises me there wasn't a different printing in softcover format a year or so after the hardback version was released.

Since I still see the regular version in bookstores all the time, I guess it won't be a bad thing, but with CR coming out a little while after this is released, won't it kind of throw some people seeing it the first time for a loop there's no coverage of it and showing the Brosnan era ending on a happy note, which it didn't?

Great news.

The best single book on the James Bond films.

This book is terrific. I love the way they broke up the chapters it really goes into great detail and has a lot of information I do not recall seeing elsewhere. It is a must buy for any Bond fan aespecially at the new low price.

A very worthy addition to the Bond fan's library, but much more for the photos than for the information or penmanship. A kerfuffle due to its size and weight, it also suffers layout that makes it virtually unreadable in places thanks to things like the colour of the text in relation to the background colours. The Dalton era gets short shrift, and throughout the book there's a baffling overconcern with then-current affairs (to show - needlessly, one would have thought - how wonderfully topical the franchise has always been). I don't want to read great screeds about US government policy in Latin America in the late '80s - I want info on the making and reception of LICENCE TO KILL, dammit! It's almost as though the writers were determined to keep trying to find the long way round, before more or less giving up and leaving the reader to just guess as to the creative background, content and significance of the films. Too much context, and not enough, erm.... stuff to put into it. Stuff that's actually to do with James Bond, that is (oh, yes, there's plenty on Austin Powers and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE and TRUE LIES and so forth, as though any Bond fan would give a fig - the last few films are dealt with so speedily that it's though the authors take it as read that the franchise and Bond phenomenon essentially died at some point in the Moore era and that the Dalton and Brosnan outings are little more than "optional extras" - not a view, admittedly, that's exactly unknown in hardcore 007 fandom, although I'd be surprised if it's one that the authors intended to endorse).

Also Gardner, Benson and co. are more or less ignored. Surely, "the legacy" of Bond amounts to more than Fleming and Eon?

(All of the above is from memory, and it's been a long while since I last picked the book up, so I may be doing it an injustice or two.)

Still, I'd welcome a suitably streamlined paperback version with a different selection of photos.

Is really there a lack about the last Bond's films? I'm a Brosnan-Bond fan and I'd like to buy almost all Bond book but I'd prefer beginning from those who have more info and photos about the last 4 films. Which are the most complete books about all films and expecially Brosnan's films?

This book goes into some very good coverage of GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, and The World Is Not Enough. It certainly does cover Die Another Day, but because this was published before Die Another Day premiered, it may not be as complete as you want it to be.

I can't think of any current book at the moment that is a definite must just for up-to-date Die Another Day coverage.

Suggest you read it again.
There is an in-depth book on the making of LTK already. This brilliant book doesn't repeat that. Beside there is not enough contextualizing of Bond. This book does it brilliantly, IMHO.

Thanks, then I'll buy it in august....it's just a pity it won't be reprinted earlier since in June I'll be in London and I would have spared the shipping costs frown.gif . Now I've ordered "For your eyes only: behind the scene...." since I've read somewhere that there are about 50 pages for each of Brosnan's Bond. I hope to have it by the end of April....
