Very interesting stuff. I had no idea Robert Brownjohn was a Swinging Sixties figure in this way (and was responsible for that very famous image for the show Obsession at Robert Fraser's art gallery).

I've been to the exhibition myself.
I really recommend it to anyone who can get there. Tower Hill/London Bridge Tube - Butlers Wharf, past Pont de la Tour restaurant. Very interesting and educational. Very evocative of the period. Great building and great site. ![]() |

I love this type of article - covering what, in my opinion, are some of the lesser known aspects of the James Bond world.
Think I will definitely have to pick this book up. ![]() |

Very cool designer. My favourite story is that at his height he was asked to design stationary for a person (whose name I forget. Let's call him Ralph Jones). Brownjohn was famous enough to simply write 'Ralph Jones had this stationary designed for him by Robert Brownjohn' in very ordinary type at the top of the page. Very cool!

Yes, he and Trevor Bond are often mislooked for their contributions to the iconography of the Bond series. Considering T.B. is credited with titles animation for "Dr. No", it's reasonable to assume that his working of the white dots or the crimson wash coming down in the gun barrel design is almost as much his as Binder's. The blood effect was the exact same element used in the first 16 Bond films. What artist wouldn't love to have something he created see life in 16 films over the course of 27 years?
p.s. I remember reading in either Brosnan's or Rubin's respective books that regarding the FRWL titles, Brownjohn got the idea of projecting titles onto a figure when his wife walked in front of a slide projector. Also I recall reading that it was an in-joke to project Ted Moore's credit on the dancer's tush. This post has been edited by Donovan: 1 April 2006 - 22:26 ![]() ![]() "That's a splendid name for it. It's certainly impressive enough. Quantum of Solace -- the amount of comfort." -James Bond |

If I remember correctly, this is mentioned on the DVD as well, although I'm not too sure if the Moore/tush bit is or not. ![]() |
