Over the past few days, some interesting production tidbits have emerged. According to Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten, Germany’s biggest film studio Berlin-Babelsberg was close to getting Casino Royale . Carl Woebcken, chairman of company "Studio Babelsberg AG", said: "We ahd a strong fight with Prague’s Barrandov Studios over the latest James Bond film, Casino Royale . But we got on the train as a co-producer and hope to be a service provider for the next film." In other words, it is highly possible that studio work for Bond 22 will be done in Berlin-Babelsberg. "We’re also in talks with a studio in Sofia, Bulgaria, where film companies could shoot cheaply and then post-production could be done in Berlin". "Wage costs are too high in Germany, that’s why we lost Casino Royale to Barrandov", Woebcken said Berliner Zeitung.
Meanwhile, Tschechien Online reports that Prague’s authorities didn’t allow film company Stilking, a co-producer for the 21st James Bond film, to use a small park near the river Moldau. The production is going to shoot on the shore of the Moldau for one day and Stilking Films wanted to rent a park as place for technical stuff and catering service. Jana Příhodová, first representative mayoress of Prague, said: "The park is used by dog owners, skateboarder and children. We can’t close it for a day".
Casino Royale is the 21st James Bond film produced by franchise holders Eon Productions. The MGM/Columbia Pictures production began shooting in January and is due for release worldwide on 17 November 2006. Starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, it is currently being filmed in the Czech Republic, the Bahamas, Italy and the UK.
