Literary 007 / Unpublished – Per Fine Ounce

This week’s edition of KSAV’s “Dave White Presents” focuses on two gents who might not be household names, but we think their stories are well worth sharing with music lovers and thriller readers everywhere!

First, Dave White interviews guitarist Buddy Merril, a highly regarded musician who’s genuinely “a slice of Americana.” For one matter, he was a regular performer on Lawrence Welk’s television series from its inception in 1955 until Buddy left the show to pursue his solo career in 1974. Along the way, Buddy was a pioneer in recording techniques and became known for his richly textured “multi-tracked” instrumental singles and albums he produced himself. He’s still at it. Dave was so knocked out after hearing Buddy’s latest release for Global Recording Artists that he had a hard time picking only a few tunes to play for you!

Then, Wes Britton will interview Ron Payne, the U.S. agent for a rather significant South African thriller writer by name of Geoffrey Jenkins. Never heard of him? Well, before his death in 2001, Jenkins wrote 16 best-selling novels that sold in the millions, were translated into 22 languages, and three of them were produced as major motion pictures. One of his fans was Ian Fleming. (The two worked together as correspondents for The Sunday Times after World War II.) In fact, one of the most interesting stories in the James Bond saga is the fate of a book called Per Fine Ounce, a 007 novel Jenkins was commissioned to write after the passing of his friend, Ian Fleming. But this adventure has disappeared, all but 16 pages of this intriguing manuscript are lost. But all 16 of Jenkins’s published books are now available again courtesy of IUniverse. Ron and Wes will tell you all about them, how Jenkins influenced the Bond film series, and much more on the next edition of “Dave White Presents.”

All this, along with a new “Moral Compass” and a new product from the folks at Rumble Industries, will debut on Tuesday, 19 January at 7:30 p.m. Pacific Time, 10:30 EST over www.KSAV.org.

On Wednesday, 20 January, the 90 minutes of variety entertainment will become available for 24/7 access at www.audioentertainment.org/dwp.
