  1. EoN Site Updates Today

EA’s official site for forthcoming 007 game Everything Or Nothing updated today, featuring a fascinating interview with Lead Character Artist Darren Pattenden, who talks about the process of cyberscanning and character modelling. Below is an excerpt of the interview taken from the site. For the full interview with pictures, please make your way to the official site.

“The term ‘cyberscanning’ is a little bit misleading,” says Darren, “because it makes it seem as though we scan an actor and then immediately put him in the game. There is a lot more work that goes into creating a character model.”

Cyberscanned actor models are so detailed that they have millions of polygons. However, consoles can currently render a maximum of about 5000 polygons per character on the screen at any one time. The challenge is to create a model that looks like “the real thing,” but with only a fraction of the polygons. Incredibly, creating a model with fewer polygons actually takes a LOT more time: each model takes about three weeks and is an extremely arduous process to complete.

As if the actors’ character models aren’t difficult enough, the team also creates the heads of entirely fictional characters for which there is no reference at all other than a concept art sketch. That’s when it gets seriously challenging.

The report goes on to mention a new evil character (who’s model was created from scratch), the menacing looking Jean LaRouge, who appears to be some kind of lead henchman in the game.

Following Esthero’s “Nearly Civilised” for previous game Nightfire, Mya, the acclaimed RnB star who has appeared with Missy Elliott, Christina Aguilera and Lil’ Kim on hit the hit remix of Lady Marmalade for Baz Luhrmann’s 2000 film Moulin Rouge, will be performing the title song for EoN.

Mya’s collaboration with Pras and Ol’ Dirty Bastard for the hit 1998 song “Ghetto Supastar”, shot her up to the upper echelon of the R&B industry, as the background singer with the soft voice who sang “you’re a superstar, that is what you are… “

Mya also goes one step further than Esthero by appearing in cyberscanned likeness as an NSA agent alongside a digital Brosnan, who she meets at a New Orleans Jazz Bar.

It certainly looks like EA are pulling out all the stops to make EoN an unforgettable experience, and as close to the movies as possible.

As ever, CommanderBond.net will be here with the latest updates concerning EoN.
